I recently put new pads on the front but didn't machine them. I bought OEM pads from Ford but they gave me the wrong ones so since I had the car already jacked up I had to go to the local Autozone and put on their regular contour pads. Now when I brake I get this burnt clutch smell every time and the brakes have been on for about 500 miles or so. Has this ever happened to anyone? Can I expect the smell to go away once they break in more maybe?

Smell should be gone in a 1000 miles unless you got brake fluid or oil on the pads when installing. (Clean brake stuff with brake parts cleaner spray.) Autozone (or maybe it was Advance) has "premium" pads which are rotor friendly and low dust for an extra $10 or so. After 20K, not a single line on my new rotors. cool

It asbestos or raybestos, Typical for new pads. Don't worry. You should have your rotors turned anytime you put on new pads.
