To try and find out the true date of the change from large front calipers and pads to small calipers and pads, please check your front brakes and check your build date and report back to here.

The build date can be found on the VIN decal on the door in the upper left hand corner.

The smaller pads can be identified most easily by looking at the rotor. The small pad will have about 1/2" of rotor showing toward the hub that the pad does not cover. The large pad will nearly reach to the hub.

We especially need owners of 98 SVT E1 and 99 SVT cars to report back.

Mine is earlier, but I'll start. Build date is 4/97 and it has the large calipers and pads.

I've got the small calipers

Did some discussion with someone who would know. Evidently you can switch to the larger calipers without much trouble FYI.

I have the "European" style larger calipers. See the sig for build date, etc.

Big Jim,

I believe I have the smaller calipers on my 98 E1 Tour. There is approximately 10 mm (a little under the half inch you mentioned) towards the hub that the pad does not cover. An engraved stamp on the caliper reads 8055, if that also helps any. My build date is 4/16/98.

I have the small pads. Build date is 4/21/99 car number 1990. So much for everything after 5/1 with small pads frown

So what does it take to get the older biger pads? Just a set of calipers from a totaled SVT? That and the pads?
Just curious

larger calipers, E0, build date 09/29/97, #3826.

so far looks like the latest SVT with large calipers is 10/2/97, and the earliest with small calipers is 04/16/98.

My E1 build date is 02/98 and it had the small caliper. It has since been changed to the large caliper. Alex
