Hammer works if the drum is siezed to the hub. Strike the drum on the face where the studs are only. If the drum is a bit worn, there will be a groove on the outer lip where the shoes don't touch, this is holding it on. You might have to back off on the adjustment to move the shoes in so it will clear.
