I was just reading this on a web site:

Porsche also recently developed a ceramic composite brake (PCCB) system, available as an option on the 2001 911 Turbo, which will now be standard on the 2002 911 GT2. The PCCB system is the first ceramic composite brake disc on a production car, according to Porsche, and its lower weight reduces unsprung mass and improves suspension response.

Any engineers out there been tinkering with composites for brake parts? Sounds interesting to me.
