Anybody that goes more than 15mph over the flow of traffic (not the speedlimit) needs to be treated just like a street racer. I've seen more accidents from speeders than ricers racin the 100' distance between stop lights.

WA2FAST, here is my biggest problem with your original post: I was on my way home from eating (and drinking a little) late last night Street racing is dumb, but to do it with some alcohol (I assume it's alcohol, cuz nobody here could give 2 ****s and a fart about you drinking milk) in your veins is super dumb! Nothing personal, but come on.....

I am not innocent but I'd be the first to admit it is dumb. It is hard not to. I think I need a slow car again.
All I have to say Lance has his reasons and it is his site so don't post street racing stories and it won't get locked.

Okay, this has gotten out of hand... just drop it. Sorry I mentioned it, it won't happen again for any reason, I wasn't bragging or boasting to begin with, it was quite a simple question about the speed of the car, I wasn't at a stoplight, in a city, but whatever, it's over. As far as me being out T-red2000se, I was implicating that I was hanging out... I was by no means drunk or even under the influence at that point. I am not stupid... if there is anything I am strongly against, it IS drinking and driving... sorry I made it sound like I was. I lost a friend to a drinking and driving accident, I wouldn't stupe that low. I always wait out whatever I did have to drink no matter how late I will be where I am. I had 2 beers and was there for 3.5 hours and wasn't drinking for 2.5-2.75 of that time not to mention I had a full stomach and had about 5 glasses of watter, just to clarify that for you.
As much as everyone on here is making me out to be an ass, I am not that much of an ass. I think this post has made it's point. I wish I could lock it or delete it. Rara, sorry you took it so personal, won't happen again... had no idea how upset everyone would get, I did not ever intend to make it sound like I am a street racing advocate, nor was I boasting about it... rather telling a story and asking a question. Sorry for the problems that I have caused.

Just create another and put all this nice stuff in there and tell everyone you want to get started on the right foot. HTH, TB Member of FOGEY (See AutoX forum for details)

Ha hah hahhhhhaaaa....
What a load!!! no street racing??? You can ban me right here! Just yesterday some moron was in the left lane (of three, during rush hour) doing the SPEED LIMIT! Ahead of him clear sailing for at least half a mile... I pass him on the shoulder at 80+mph... and do 90+ for the 1/2 mile... saved some time, made that jerk pee in him panties, and I hope when he calls the stated troopers about the "road rage" incident the cop tells him to "Get with the flow..." My $0.02 This is like banning breathing....... I knew this site was headed for the trash bin, but this is the last death rattle.... The old farts win out... too bad. (and I am an old fart too at 53!!!! but at least I still like to drive fast) ADDED: The key word here is DRIVE FAST.. not saving time... I drive around in circles, fast circles... saving time is not part of the equation

My $0.02 This is like banning breathing....... Uh, Do the math. I'll assume the speed limit was 60 for nice round numbers. Assuming you covered the 1/2 mile gap at 90MPH instead of the limit of 60, you saved a whopping 10 seconds. Yep, that's right, 10 seconds. It takes 30 seconds to cover a half mile at 60MPH and 20 seconds to cover 1/2 mile at 90 MPH. So if you had to slow down (perhaps not to 60) at the end of the gap, you probably saved 10 seconds. Sure it was fun, and makes for a great story, but it really didn't change your commute time in any appreciable fashion. One traffic light that doesn't go your way negates any time you might make on such a selfish move. Sure, the Left Lane Loser was selfish as well. But does risking your life and the lives of others even come close to the value of 10 seconds. I hope you don't depreciate life that much. TB

Just a thought...Socratic tradition forces me to say, Define that term first, then discuss it (or ban discussion of it). It's a pretty vague term, after all, and lotsa 'racing' I see is neither inherently dangerous nor stupid, depending on the speeds involved and the location. I know plenty of near-deserted rural roads w/50mph limits I could cheerfully do 0-60 runs on and never feel like a public menace. I will agree that many owners of faster cars are absolute idiots behind the wheel and deserve to get nailed to a tree, but blanket condemnation isn't right either, I think. I do appreciate the BB owner/moderator's position....very tricky position to be in.
98 CSVT, basic mod's, my slowest car yet but still faster than the wife's Talon Tsi AWD. Not by much, though. Now if I could get the back wheels to do something....
