Well, biggest difference is the bottom end. 1G's have a 6 bolt bottom end, and 2G's have a 7 bolt. Those are the crankwalkers.

Exact same 4G63 motor though.

2G's havr a t25 on them, where as 1g's have a 14b. t25 = garbage.

1G is claimed to be 195hp and 2G 210hp.

You will regret a 2G. Trust me.

geez...so how much would a decent 1G cost..and labor.. I would have to buy an older 2G body and a good 1G motor.. then installation into the 2G body style:( Ok 3L your still lookin good.

And you will spank the hell out of any 3L contour.

You can do it all yourself and save the labor on it. Buy an older 2g if you like the body of them. You can get em for about 2-4K depending on shape. If it has no block, prolly will be cheap as shiit. like 1500 - 3K

You will have no more than 5k in it.

I am by no means an expert on Mitsu motors....but our very own Contours suffer from the very same problem of "crankwalk". All 2.5L Duratecs have the same problems. This "crankwalk" is believed to be the cause of the actual oil starvation issue. The "crankwalk" causes the bearings to shave and block the holes where oil would normally enter the chamber....thus increasing friction and frying your engines crank. The solution the Ford has finally chosen to implement is the Dual Mode Dampner. The DMD is now standard on all 2.5 Duratecs over in Europe.

Is there a DMD available for the Mitsu?

Why does the first generation engine not suffer from "crankwalk" where the 2G does if they are the same?? Strange.

Now...the car you are looking at has only 20K on it...that is very, very low.

I'd say go for it. GSX's are pretty rare....I've only seen 2 around town....EVER!!!!

Good luck!

GSX's are a dime a dozen here.

The 1G's have a 6 bolt bottm end, where as the 2G has a 7 bolt. There lies your differnece. The oil squirters on the 7 bolt bottem end do not exist. There lies your trouble. DMD will do no good.

I owned a 1g or actually i still own a 1g, mine suffered crankwalk or actually the thrust bearing went out and my crank would go in and out of the block. Definately would go 1st gen motor of 2g motor any day, 2g= garbage. Some other considering which I did w/ a friends car is we got the evo iii motor and it bolted up and from the factory it has 270hp. Definately could tell the diff. Only prob was that the intake man. would not fit b/c of the ac and the motor that he got was out of an automatic and that obviously means it had the crappy turbo(tiny). So we swapped his factory 14b and put it on. Runs great. Got the motor in Ft Myers I believe and it was about 1200. Btw, the owners have a real right hand drive lancer and a true silvia.
