I disagree. The gaskets will not be good enough to re use. I cleaned my UI and LIM at 45K and I reused my gaskets. Not as good idea. I ended up have a massive vacuum leak coming from my LIM. It made my car run horribly lean for weeks. I ended up ordering the complete set of gaskets from Bill J for 28.10. A value in itself. I would strongly suggest you do not clean them until you have the replacement gaskets in hand.

Like I stated earlier, you should order upper and lower intake, throttle body, idle air, and EGR gaskets. If not, you are asking for trouble...[/b]
Hey Neil, when you changed yours, did you use the correct TQ specs? Just curious.....as a few people I talked to said their gaskets were fine.

Yup, of course. You are talking to the guy who does everything pretty much tight by the book. This is why i insist you have an in/lb torque wrench. Gaskets are not meant to be reused after 50+k. Plain and simple....

When I cleaned mine at 20K I changed the gaskets...there is just no point in having a problem and having to take everything apart over $30.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope everyone is doing well.

To answer your question. I've done the Intake Cleaning 3 times, so yes...I know how.

Yes..just go to any Ford dealer and order the gaskets....listen to Neil. I have a INCH Tq wrench.

The intakes do get very dirty. As for the fluid in your air intake....we'll figure that out...your check engine light means that is a problem.

Well, I got to look at Eric's car tonight. You can definitely see where he got into an accident. There is nearly six inches of space between the engine and the front frame (where the fan and headlights are). I opened up his intake tube...and low and behold there was a puddle of oil. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from...looked like it was coming out of one crank case vent hoses.

Well, when we put it back together and Eric started her up....then shut her down...there was a loud sucking sound (insert your comment here). It was dark, and after a few starts and stops...we found the PCV valve was not in, it was hanging out! So, I figure that was the cause of the oil in the intake tube. This means his intakes are absolutely coated and caked with oil.

So, after a little more inspection, I wanted to check his oil......only to find out....I CAN'T!!! His dip stick is GONE!! The top of the dip stick tube was sheered off in the accident, and they never replaced it!! I told Eric to take it back and have them fix the tube. I don't think I'd trust those idiots with cleaning the intakes out...who know what they'll break this time.

What is the moral of this story? If your Contique breaks....come to the forums for help. Oh...and don't run into walls either!!! laugh

I told Eric that maybe next weekend we can clean his intakes out. Stay tuned! :p

Well, if you are gonna clean the intakes out next weekend, get on the horn now and get your local Ford guy to order all the gaskets. Bill Jenkins will not be taking anymore orders until he gets settled in Vegas, so looks like you are gonna have to order from a local dealer or Ford Parts Online to get them.

Get upper and lower intake, EGR, IAC, and TB gaskets...might even wanna get injector o-rings....

Fair point about the FAQ but that link is listed for 95-97 cars... Contour has a 99 so ?????
