Passenger airliners do not break the speed of sound. Even though a lot could surpass it, the FAA does not allow it.

They normally cruise around 550 knots. (625mph)

If we want to talk my fastest speed. I've gone around Mach 1.4-1.5 (1100+mph) laugh F-16D off the eastern coast of Japan...

I thought Air France used to advertise that they fly their Concorde above the speed of sound... Maybe it's OK to do that when you're over international water?

The FAA does not allow it? How does a Concorde jet cruise at Mach 2 then and get from NY to Paris in under 4 hours travelling time?

Easy, they apply to the FAA to be able to fly over Mach 1. Sure there are guidelines, but as long as you meet them, you can fly as fast as you want.....So, the FAA does indeed allow it, it is prolly just limited to certain carriers ..

The FAA only governs airspace over the USA. So over the ocean, no one gives a **** if you fly Mach 10.

Is the Concorde an American based airliner?

Does it break the sound barrier in US air space?

No & No

That's how...

FAA can only regulate US "free" air space & for non-military aircraft...

Yes you can apply for "access" to break certain FAA regulations. Air shows do it all the time. Like minimum altitude over a populated area, max speed limitations over said area, etc...

Back in the day the airlines did regularily break the sound barrier. You know what...
Home owners (city councils, etc) complained about the constant noise and shock waves and forced the FAA to ban such activities.

Where in your rebuttle do you state country of origin was the determining factor? I believe you said:

That was the basis of my argument. I was just responding to what was written. Maybe you need to be more specific next time wink wink wink
