What is FL like? I only went to FL once (orlando and coca beach) it was cool but that was 7 years ago. My wife and I are thinking of moving out of CT. Getting real expensive and nothing going on in terms of jobs.
I am a Java programmer and she is a CPA. We were thinking of either Vero Beach area (friends just moved there) or the Gulf side (Bradenton). What is the ecomony like around there?
We probably will visit soon..like July. Just getting a feel..
Thanks..

I believe that Bradenton is fairly expensive, and Vero is about average...both will be much cheaper than CT. Your wife MIGHT have to retake that CPA test for Florida. but just check monster.com and the like for jobs.

Check into Jacksonville.
Cost of living is low, job market is high.

The job market is pretty good for programmers in FL, but don't expect to make the same $$$ that you make up there. I live in Melbourne (just south of Cocoa beach) and I LOVE it here. We're close to Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Air Force Base, so there are a lot of high-tech companies here - more than in Vero Beach. You oughtta check it out. Moved from PA to Titusville exactly one year ago. KSandbergFL is right about the Melbourne area - actually most of Brevard County. Cost of living is definitely lower than up North. No State or Local income tax, and real estate taxes are quite reasonable. Brevard is a good location for commuting to a number of good job areas too. One thing we've learned is that things do tend to rot and rust a little quicker in this environment. But hey, the beaches are great places to relax and forget. Check out Playalinda Beach just north of the Space Center if you get a chance, no development National Seashore with Space Shuttles on the pad just over your shoulder.
btw: July is a good time to visit and see how you deal with the heat - my wife didn't come down until early August - baptized by fire!

I have lived here in Melbourne all my life. This town has grown leaps and bounds in the last 10 years. Palm Bay, an even bigger community has a lot of gorwth too, but scummers like Brinn Riley live there! Brevard county as a whole is great. As stated by the others, no state tax is a plus too...Move here....

The computer jobs are good...just do a quick search on Monster.com or on Brainbuzz.com to verify that. There are a lot of jobs for people with proven experience. I love Florida...I've lived up north..and there's no comparison. The cost of living is average and you just can't beat all the things to do down here.
Good Luck
