In comparison with many other makes, I think Ford is doing as well as anyone else, and way better than Pontiac. Aztek?? Vibe?? Cmon. The Focus is a good car with an enormous amount of room, nice build quality and a really bizarre dash, but you can't have everything. Remember, everyone went "HUH?" when the first Taurus was released, but eventually everyone chimed in. Except GM of course. They had that one body style and, by God, they were gonna use it for every car they manufactured.

The Focus SVT kills the 2002 Civic Si 'grocery cart'. Most Civics sold are the librarian 4 door LX models in biege with the 105HP engine, so I hardly think the Focus is weak. :p
But, they got to get new mid size cars on the market sooner than 2006! Let me correct you on a few things here... First off, the 2002 CIVIC LX comes with a 115 hp 1.7 liter 4 cylinder and they are definitely not librarian 4 doors. And I very rarely see a beige Civic because they don't offer that color (They offer a Titanium Metallic (which is closer to silver) with a beige interior, but no beige color paint). The Focus and the Civic look very similar. Look at the taillights (of the FOCUS and the CIVIC coupe, almost identical), and then look at the overall body style, you'll see one in the other. On top of that, how many recalls has Focus had? PICS???? HONDA CIVIC LX SEDAN edmunds.com 2002 Focus While we were at the track, we also performed our usual battery of instrumented tests. This particular car was faster than the Zetec-equipped Focus SE we had in the Economy Sedan Comparison Test. The ZTS went from zero to 60 mph in 9.2 seconds while the SE did it in 9.7 seconds. The quarter-mile time was also quicker -- 16.9 seconds. Still, these acceleration numbers are average for a manual-transmission car with 130 horsepower. A 2001 Honda Civic Sedan we recently tested did an 8.4-second 60-mph sprint. ARTICLE And don't forget the ZTS is the 130 hp engine with 135 torque compared to the Civic LX at 115 hp at 110 torque. Therefore it would be concluded that the Focus lacks what the Civic has... And personally, I like the way the CIVIC looks much better than styling on the FOCUS...

The funny thing about those numbers is that I'm pretty sure the manual transmission Zetec Contour runs lower numbers, and it's a heavier car.

Ford ha some serious voids in their lie-up:
- NO Sports sedan (i.e. Contour SVT) - Soon NO sports compact (i.e. ZX2, Probe GT) - NO affordable sports car (i.e. Corvette)
Also the Mustang is a dinosaur, still roughly based on the Fairmont. Ford also has to get rid of those massive, above bumper grilles on all of their cars. They are huge enough to sufficiently feed air to a fighter jet engine!

IMO the Civic hatchback is ugler than the focus, but a EX coupe is better looking than the ZX2(RIP) - as far as styling I thing someone already mentioned the taurus and camery, Toyota seems to copy every top seller out there - F150=tundra/T100 - taurus=camry - lexus=MB - escort=carola(sp) - alota Toyo's seem to like fords styling...or their sales #s & I still think the F150s are one the best looking trucks out there !

Sports compact (Focus SVT) Sports car - while not a "sports car" in its purest definition, the Cobra would certainly qualify as an affordable sports car in most peoples eyes...
I would probably argue that the Mustang is not a dinosaur. Granted, some of the technology has passed, but it has been improved and the performance is impossible to ignore.
Only time will tell how reliable and truely loved these new cars are.[/QB]
As far as reliability, the Focus now hold the record with 6 simultaneous NTHSA investigations ongoing. As for being "loved," depreciation on the Focus is a bad joke (but hey, that's how I could afford my SVT Contour ). The SVT Focus is a nice car, but not nice enough for the cash.

The Focus ZX3 is out, plans to make a SVT version and the new Si is a 3 door hatch back that looks like the Focus. Looks like Ford is doing something right if Honda has to copy them.
