Learn to use one and you'll never understand why you never had one before... I just wish I had one.....

i totally agree..i love driving a stick, and wouldn't own anything else..cant stand driving the wife's auto,i always feel the need to hold the shifter, and i can't figure out what to do with my left foot..buy the stick, you will love it when you learn how to drive it..

You can teach yourself, just remember, "You can't go wrong with GAS." You will eventually smooth out your technique.

Not getting an SVTC because it's manual?....never heard of that before. It would really be worth it to teach yourself and get doing it well. But learning on the SVTC would be like your first time being with Pamela Anderson.

GET THE SVT! Will not buy a ATX ever again. Love determining my own shift points. First gear is probably the hardest to get a handle on, then second which is similar to first...only faster. Here is how I learned how to drive a manual. First dad had me try to cut my teeth on his '70 cuda cause, as he said, "was much more forgiving" than the 84 cavalier that we bought. After some time I didn't really get the total hang of it.
I got my 84 cavalier with a manual and the first thing I did was to let it slowly roll down the driveway we had and began to get a feel for how to roll back and drive up the driveway. Do this a couple of times and you will get it. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.
Remember, your shifts from first, second, third, etc. should be smooth and firm. Not saying you should always bark the tires but make sure you don't slip the clutch. IE more gas before you let the clutch out fully. You can hear people that do this. It does not sound smooth. There should be a distinguishable sound between gears.
Ok.....I am rambling....Hope this helps. If you need pointers PM me
