Couple questions for the VA folk. I'm in Arlington, VA and...

Hoping to find a place that sells Mintex 1144 pads. I have a 98.5 SVT with the newer pads so hopefully someone would have them in stock. Don't really want to order as I'd like to change pads this weekend. Any suggestions?

Also - planning to have the resonator removed. Any suggestions of a place that will do this cheap and well? Will I regret doing this? - worried might be too loud?

Thanks!!

All I know about the resonator removal is that there's been a LOT of people that have done this and then paid all over again to have something put in there in place of the straight pipe. It's too many people for me to try it myself. I also can't stand the sound of a resonatorless system cold...

Just my opinion.

I have an Edelbrock 5503 in place of my res. Matt M. just welded it in for me this past weekend after having clamps with leaks installed. It sounds good. Ask Jess, Jim, and Matt. Nothing all that different than stock but much less restriction.

Thanks for the info...

Forgive my ingorance, but is an Edelbrock 5503 just another res?

If so what's the cost to do this versus just throwing in the straight pipe? Would any muffler shop have a replacement that's not as restrictive as stock? Suggestions of a place to do this?

Thanks!

try using the search function under performance and general mods for "Edelbrock" and "remov res". you'll find lots of good info. i think there's droning issues and it's loud.

the Edelbrock (i discovered thru search) is not a resonator, but a muffler. it apparently works well as a resonator to reduce drone.

i'm waiting for my Vibrant resonator to get here because i can't stand the drone with my setup.

good luck!

Oh yeah...

Andy's system sounds real good now that the Edelbrock is welded in there well.

I like it! I like it a lot! laugh

Midas on 236 in Annandale. Kenny is the manager. Good guy. But buy the part online. A-1 Performance Exhaust.

703-354-7000.

It cost me 75.06 to have my old muffler/resonator cut out of a custom SS system and have my dynomax bullet welded in place.

They charged my $170 to mount my custom CTA Motorsports exhaust. Which included fitting and welding all joints, welding hangers in place and gaskets & gunk for the three flanges. (2 exhaust manifold, 1 cat to cat back).

SP Motorsports is way too far, and way too expensive for this type of thing. $77+ and hour for a 2 hour round trip.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Ed

All - thanks for the info. I'll take a run through the search tool b/f making any decisions. Ed - I'll likely use the midas you recommend as that's really quite close.

Other than SP Motorsports - any suggestions on where I can get the Mintex pads - was hoping to do this tomorrow AM and looking to avoid calling around trying to find someone who stocks the 1144.

Thanks again for all the solid info!

Most Places don't carry them in-stock. Going to Joe's is about your only option if he is open at all.

The Edelbrock cost me about $90 shipped to my door. It replaces the resonator and is pretty much stright thru without the drone of a straight pipe. A little expensive but very nice.
