Driving back from Richmond on Sunday, I decided to skip I-95 altogether because summer traffic, so I found a back way. I took Rt. 33 to Rt. 522 to Rt. 29 -- only took about 2 hrs 15 minutes (only 15 minutes longer than it takes if I get to drive a pretty consistent 80mph on I-95, which is nearly impossible during the summer months).

It was an excellent drive on very rural 2-lane roads. There was almost no traffic, not a single cop, and I got it up over 90 on several occasions, but didn't want to go any higher because I was unfamiliar with the roads. Not only were there some nice long straights along 522, but 33 had lots of curves so it was an all-around great drive.

Believe it or not there are a lot of curvy roads thru Agriculture between the beltway and Laurel. Also, when going to my girlfriends new apt. I take 32 and 170 past Piney Orchard and it drops me off at 424 and 3 in Crofton. One of the best runs in the area.

That's all you get? I was under the impression that you got a lot more seat time than that. Are there other sessions that don't use instructors where you can just go out and run laps? $175 or whatever it is seems like a lot for ~1.5 hours of driving.

Creature,
It may not sound like much, but I get in over 100 miles of track time and am exhausted at the end of the day. After you've been a few times and demonstrated you know what you're doing, you can go without an instructor (like me). The instructors are great though. The all race on the track and everyone one of them has taught me something new.

Thet also offer seat time on different days than FATTs where you can drive as much as you (or your brakes) can stand, but you have to qualify for it.

I like 619, Aden, and a few others in the Quantico area. The roads are all pretty smooth, hilly and curvy. Lots of fun! I don't know if it's because the roads are around Quantico or not, but when I drive down them at night, i usually don't see another car... and i've never seen a cop on any of these roads; there is just no where for them to set up a speed trap.

That's good to know ... thanks. Makes me that much more interested in getting out there. My car has done reasonably well at autox (for its class, anyway) but it definitely handles sweepers and banked corners better than the tight, flat turns of autox, so I'd like to try it on a roadcourse.

You're lucky, maybe I just drive when all the cops are out, but I've taken 29 all the way through VA going down and back from NC and there's been quite a few cops each time.

Once on the way north I let my adrenaline get the best of me and took off for some fun and barely missed getting nailed in a trap because I was not quite past a large truck while passing on the right when I spotted him. Another couple of feet and I would have been toast doing something close to 80 in a 55.

Well, Rt. 29 was the smallest portion of the drive (from Culpepper to just past I-66) and there was enough traffic on that part that I wasn't going real fast there. Rts. 33 and 522 were wide-open and fun, though.

She used to live off of NobleWood near Mount Oak Rd. And now moved to Crofton Parkway. Since she moved I've had more races in three days than in the year and a couple months she lived in Bowie. A Saturn, a NOSed Escort, and a New 4-banger Eclipse. The Escort and Saturn were on 32. The Escort never pulled away. But the smoke out the tail pipes was a dead giveaway the he was on the bottle. I played the Saturn like a puppet. Giving him lots of time to get up speed before I rung him in. The Eclipse was a joke. Let me know If your every in the area. I know lots of fun back roads.

Summit point eh...I took the Accident avoidance class up there(great for insurance). Anybody have the crazy old woman with the Audi TT for an instructor? Boy was I surprised when she flung my arse aroumd on the skid pad.
