One great thing about the 98-98.5's are the great door ding gaurds!!! (Mine are off anyway )Yes, the door ding guards do flow much nicer in respect to the body. One reason I haven't taken mine off in addition to the protection they provide.

I agree with duc1 - the E0 wheels look better on the Contour. But I do like the lighter weight of the later wheels.

hmmm...a bit late to the party, i see, but i'm gonna post anyway.
i like both. it took me forever to decide which to get - i bought my E1 in august of '98, and my dealer had 4 E0's - two t-red's, two black's - and one silver E1. i couldn't make up my mind about the wheels, so i decided i'd rather have silver and also get the sunroof and cd player for free (instead of having them added to the sticker for the E0's). at the time, i didn't even know about the suspension upgrades that came w/ the E1's.
i tend to think the E1 wheels look better on silver cars, but on darker cars - t-red and black - i actually like the E0 ones better. if i ever buy another SVTC, i'd hold out for a low-mileage black or t-red E0, methinks.
on the topic of spoilers - i can't stand the spoiler on the contour. i think the rear end of the car is too rounded and "flowing" to have a spoiler perched atop its sloping derriere...
weight-wise, iirc, the E0's only weigh a pound more than the E1's - probably not enough to get your shorts in a bunch over, though it definitely is an advantage of the E1's...

I have a 99 and actually like the E0 looks better. Cosworth style essentially. Also the 205/55/16 tires are about 1/2 inch taller than the 215/50/KDWs filling out the gap better. And they got the bigger calipers too1 (Functionally E1/99/00 has slightly lighter weight wheel, less sidewall height, more grip from revised shock damping.) Spliting hairs for sure, hmmm a green SVT with E0 wheels would be unique!

I have a black E0 and am with everyone else. black and red need E0 and silver and green need E1. They look kind of awkward on a black E1 and probably look just as wierd on a green svt. As far as E0 vs. E1 cars, who really cares? I have five less hp, but have a clock in the dash. So what?
the only thing I do care about is the spoiler. I'm not a spoiler person. The gen 1 taurus sho didn't have the spoiler and it is the best looking in my opinion. same with the tour. All an SVT needs is the pre-98 trunk lid and it looks DOPE!
Old - 95.5 SE with lot's of mods. New - 98 Black SVT with few mods.

Someone mentioned that the E0 doesn't have the SVT center... if I recall, that big piece in the middle has SVT printed on it.
Regardless, I like the E1s better and I like the spoiler better. My car is black and I still like the E1 rims better. I think the notion that color of the car makes a difference is silly. When I was buying my SVT I didn't even consider getting one without a spoiler either. I think the back end looks funny without it. I also like the post 98 trunk better. Pre-98 trunks remind me of cavelier trunks. I never liked the look of pre-98 Contours. Since joining the CEG I have come to appreciate them much more.

I must say I like both styles and all options of the CSVT as they each seem to have their own character. However if I had to chose my favorite, then it would be the 00/Spoiler/E1 Rims, not only because that is what I have, but because it is the most aggressive looking contour IMHO. The non spoiler, old rims style is a very nice car to have, but IMHO looks too subdued for me to own one.
They are really all nice looking cars though.
I also agree with high-powered with regards to the fact that I also never considered "not" getting the spoiler on the car, and when first looking at SVT's I was drawn to the E1 style rims and thought the older ones were ugly. Only after visiting this site, and developing a higher appreciation for CSVT's do I now like the older style without the spoiler.
I wouldn't mind having a nice silver 98 with the older wheels and no spoiler though as that is a sharp car, and much easier to clean than my black 00
