Just so you know, there are guys running 13.9@100mph with AUTO 1.8Ts with just an intake, chip, downpipe, and dump pipe. When you've got torque, a manual transmission isn't a huge advantage.

Just check out the power curves.....pathetic at low RPM but flat beyond about 3000rpm.

I am trying to get a girl I know to buy the 1.8T. Went with here to test drive it and I was pretty impressed. Like someone said earlier, the torque steer is a killer. Overall, a nice ride.

On my 95 LX:
ATX Tranny: $3500 Exhaust System, manifolds back: $1300 Head Gaskets and Manifold gaskets: $500 Water Pump (2x): $750
Owned car 5 years = warranty covered cost per year of $1210.
After warranty, water pump failed again and main cat clogged again. Out of pocket costs $600.
Total per year expense $1330. It could have been more.....

Comes with Recaros. Check it out on www.vwvortex.com and click on the 337 link. It is a sweet little deal.
Also, check out APR and Garret for chip info. APC's chip is supposed to be top notch with the Vortex crowd. Undetectable by the dealer and you can get it to flip between stock and chipped modes with a few pushes of the cruise control buttons. Nice gains. 240 ft/lbs aint playing around....Thank you!I think I just found my new car! If you have any more info on it please send it to me!

Ed Yikes that is a lot of problems for 5 year old car...even if you put a lot of miles on. I've got a 97 windstar coming up to 5 years old next summer. Have 60K mi and have spent only about $120 other than normal maintenance (assuming that you count front brake reline as normal)...no warranty repairs other than getting them to fix alloys when they started leaking in 3rd winter and a couple recalls. 2 other cars I bought new only had only a few hundred dollars in repairs, total, for first 5 years.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh love those common sense "cheese-heads"! A study down 6-7 years ago, if you bought a new car every 10 years vs every 3 years during your working years (retired at 62), you will have saved over $ 300k. ' Unfortunately we car nuts have this addiction problem. Of course there's other side, life too short - enjoy! Paul
