It only took 6,000 miles Thank god its still under factory warranty. So at 32,000 miles I am having the wheel bearing, and throttle body replaced. They tried to get me to replace my rear brakes but I wasn't falling for it. Why would my rear brakes go before my front ones? The car stops on a dime. They said "We took the tires off to check the rear brakes and they are down to 3mm...we can replace them for $189.00". They were checking them because the car sometimes sticks after I take the e-brake off and try to go in reverse in the morning. There's a sound as if the brakes are stuck. Then it goes just fine. In case you are curious the car is at Milbury Ford. I know a lot of you have had problems with them but they have always been good to me and my old Cougar. I bought the Cougar there.

my rear brakes stick like that in the morning too from using the ebrake. it has always done that since I bought it brand new. it's not every morning. more like 1 in every 10 mornings or something like that depending on the weather and whatnot.

What is up with Contours and wheel bearings???? I hear this often on the forums. Mostly for the newer ones (99 or higher). Did they switch to a cheaper part of something????? Now I know Ford would never do anything like that.

I just want it back and running smoothly. They didn't have the throttle body in stock so I have to wait till tomorrow to get it back.

the 99 SVT I currently have, the e-barke sticks when it sits over night, and my other, 2000 SVT did it too from day one with 48 miles on it the back brake would stick. So I'd say that the e-brake sticking and making the pop sound when you start moving is perfectly normal.
The reason they are telling you your rear brakes are worn is becasue there is nothing physically wrong with the car. If they come to you and say "we found nothing wrong," they're afraid you will figure they think you are a dummy who doesn't know a brake rotor from a hot rock.
And 3mm, thats almost nothing, I'll bet that when they tell you the pads are 3mm thick, they are refering to the pad having 3mm more material than the minimum ammount specified in the service manual. I'm sure they will last until the fall. Besides, I recently changed the pads on my SVT, and it did nothing to stop the sticking e-brake.
When the brake sticks like it does for us, there is nothing wrong with the actuation system, it is simply the pad seizing to the rotor

you know what I've been noticing lately on mine though is that same rear wheel that has the sticky brake in the morning seems to be squealing when I come to a stop. anyone else having this problem too? is it possible there's a rock stuck up in there or something? I should go look and see if there are scrapes on my rotors.
