I've owned a 1995 Z-24 before my SVT and my best friend had his SVT at that time. I think some people are forgetting that the OLD Z-24's came with a 2.4L DOHC 4 banger. Mine also can STOCK with a 4:11 gear ratio. I had no trouble hang with my friends SVT until he reached 3rd gear and sometimes I could get a half a car on him off the launch. All in all it held its own and I had 50,000 more miles on it then his SVT and we where both stock.
Now the newer Z-24's come with a 2.2L DOHC. I'm not sure what the gear ratio is but I don't think they are using 4:11 anymore so NOT all Z-24's are the same.
I thought that the 95 Z24 had the 2.3L quad cam motor (not the high output)
