Z24 2.4L DOHC 150HP/155TQ & ~2600lbs

15.7-15.8 range for the MTX

16 flat range for the ATX

The ATX drives better than the MTX.
The MTX has no feel, rubbery, sloppy, long throws, and just plain bites.
The ATX drives like a champ and shifts at redline.

As much as this is a shock to me I would pick the ATX over the MTX.

A decent match for a non-SVT V6 MTX with the Duratec pulling away the longer it goes.

Either 2.4L ATX or MTX would beat a V6 ATX, I4 MTX or I4 ATX...

Demon I'm not saying you are wrong but Loco, I-Dom-In-8 and I all saw just a little over a week ago a ATX Z24 running 18's ALL night at the track not sure if either of them know if he had any mods but it wasn't even close to running 16's. and it couldn't of been a track issue causing it cause I ran a 16.8 I-Dom-In-8 ran a 16.9 and loco ran a 17.6 for our best times of the day and there is a MTX Zetec ATX duratec, and a ATX Zetec... all with some mods all three better than the Z24 we saw run.

My wife has a 1996 mtx cavalier coupe, not the z24 and it is pretty quick. I'll bet I could run high 16's in the 1/4. I would not doubt the z24 is worth high 15's.

P.S. I thought the recorded 0-60 time for the 98 svt was 7.1 and 99-2000 was 6.9, so why do I always here it is 7.9? I hear that quite a bit. there is no way a stock low-mid 15 second quarter-mile car is running an 8 second 0-60.

I've seen a few at the track.

The wife owned a 98 Cavalier LS (2.4L ATX that ran 15.9x with some mods) & now owns a 02 Z24 4dr that "feels" almost as fast.

The times I posted earlier are from magazines.

300-400lbs lighter, 20 less HP, 10 less TQ. It's not like that seems so shocking... :p laugh

18's sound like a 2.2L ATX j-body

:p Sorry but I can't do shovey. I had one. not a Z24 but it was a Cavi and it sucked! My father-in-law has one of their trucks...it has a 4cyl in it and an auto tranny and I swear I'd have to handicap it just to help it get out of its own way!

Put it another way.....there was this nice tricked out yellow one in my town and he tried............

SVT with bad driver = slow.
Cav with good driver = possibly faster but way uglier

cough at the track cough. I raced a friend with his newer one. Granted the engine was still oroung 6000km's or so. Both my MTX I4 and his MTX Z24 were on par with eachother. Then we swaped cars and tried again with the same results. Then again my rebuilt ztec pulls like a mother... Not sure exactly why though. :p

Yeah the Z24 we saw at the track was an ATX with an exhaust mod only.
