I don't doubt it's possible, but he kept saying he can beat any stock SVT even when he's stock. He'll have a hard beating too many basically stock MTX V6's even with the mods he has now.

The times I gave were for 96-02 Z24 (2.4L MTX/ATX) or LS (2.4L ATX) Cavaliers. Yes I drove a 02 Z24 MTX and thought those exact same thoughts doing so. I test drove one before we bought the wife's car. The 02 Z24's (which became 2.2L DOHC LS Sport's) received a lot of nice improvements over previous models. Blatant whoring of our J-body here...

Joe Hartley "yes I know it's a MTX Zetec but it beats having a ATX Duratec" Champagne 96 GL MTX some mods dynoed at 114.2whp and 124.4wtq (pre CTA intake) 16.858 @ 80.76mph (yes it's slow but still faster than D Davis) AIM: ZetecRacing My Site My Profile

Karlheheh... That would do it. My wife's Z24 is quick off the line, but no way would it hang with an SVT after 60'. A normal V6 MTX it would hang with for a little bit and then the Duratec would start slowly pulling away around the 2-3 shift... I am surprised to hear all these reports of slow Z24's. (folks 17-18 is 2.2L range) My wifes bone stock 98 LS 2.4L ATX ran 16.48 @ 84 at the crappy track here. The Cavalier has a better power to weight ratio (HP & TQ) then a Contour does. So I don't understand why so many people can't believe they are fairly quick... Oh well... Just beware lining up against an Indigo Blue Z24 4dr here in KC. My wife will smoke you...

Hey guys you are forgetting the late 80's early 90's Z-24 came with 2.8 or 3.1 v6's in them. I own a 89 Z-24 2.8 MTX....now don't get me wrong I love mu tour to death 95Se 2.5 MTX, but I would have to really sweat it out to put it up against my Z.. The Z is stronger off the line and you can hold the gears longer to produce higher speeds quicker...don't know if the our would

NO... 120HP/150TQ to a max of 140HP/170TQ (94 3.1L Z24 only) - all low revving! The "all steel" engine also made them considerably heavier. They also used very substandard tranny's (MTX & ATX) The Gen 2 Z24's are noticably slower then the Gen 3's. The 94 is really close though...

Yes I drove a 02 Z24 MTX and thought those exact same thoughts doing so. Hmm, too bad Chevy can't come up with a decent manual tranny for the Z24... Out of curiosity, has anyone driven a Camaro Z28, SS or non-SS, or for that matter a C5 Vette, with a 6spd manual? How are those? --T.J.

Okay, why has this topic even recieved this many serious replys? We're talking CSVT vs. Cavalier (granted Z24... big deal). There's no way the Z would hang. Period.

Friend of mine had a 94 Z24 ATX on the bottle, he sold it two days after I got my SVT, so I never got to see what he could do. I have raced one newer z24 (not sure if MTX or ATX) he just added a CAI or something of the like and wanted to see what he could do with it. By the end of second gear he was 1-2 cars back. He tried a second time only with the same result. He was a good sport though, not like those guys that lose and run for cover by immediately turning off the road
