No bashing, what's your opinion? Some kid mouthing off that he beat SVT Contour with his stock Z24 by 3-4 carlengths. What you guys think they'll do head to head on the 1/4mi track? Handling is not what we're talking about, he already admit that SVT Contour handles great. He only raced one of his friend's SVT and no other, but he vows to beat any other basically stock SVT's if he ever race another one. BTW, me and some other people already said a Z24 will have a hard time out accelerate against a non-SVT V6 let alone an SVT. Maybe we were completely off? If you wanna read about it, go here - http://www.ubrf.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5516 It started off by me mentioning the turbo kit that's going to be available for the V6's.

I don't like those cavaliers... Two friends had them... one of them was a convertible Z24... it was a ATX... no fun to drive... I had the impression i could give him a hard time with my Zetec... so I don't think that you should have any problems... Wow... this other friend that had a 95 2-door .. and his car was 5speed... i think it was a 2,200 cc or something... and that one was kind of cool to drive... It felt more powerful than my 4 banger..

I raced a Z24 *cough*at the track*cough* back when I had my 95 SE MTX, and I had him easily by 2-3 car lengths. That was also before I really knew how to get as much power out of the manual transmission as possible with precise shifting. The guy knew I would take his car too, so I think this kid has a little problem with reality.

a little over a week ago at the track I saw a Z24 run an 18.1 not exactly SVT speed in my opinion considering my little Zetec runs faster than that.

from ATX to a MTX I would say stock that would put him in the low 17's upper 16's and with his intake and exaust maybe low 16's not sure what his EGR block off would do for performance... but still not as fast as an SVT.

that guy is fos,no way he could even almost hang with a stock svt,let alone beat it...maybe if he had nitrous, but he still might have a tough time against an svt..that guy is nuts..a regular duratec 'tour should also be able to hang with if not beat his cavalier...tell him to quit dreaming...

A stock Z24(MTX) can run high 15s. You have to rememeber something...... weight.
Look what this Moron is saying,

Friend of mine derek has a SVT(1998), ive still beaten him buy 1-1.5 carlenghts everytime. His friend has a 2002 contour with the 170 horse 2.5 and hes four car lenghts back. Derek has a stick and jeff has an auto.......if you look at car and driver a z24 and a contour svt have the same advertised 0-60 times.......7.9 seconds

My friend has a '99 Z24 ATX, and we did a "fake race" from a light (fake as in up to about 30 feet , that's when the lanes converged and I gave in behind him). He was directly ahead/diagonal when I slowed down and we merged. The Z24 does okay, but considering that my 'tour doesn't have very good pull until about 2nd or 3rd gear (from 30-34 mph onward), I had two more people than he (four as opposed to two), and the extra rear weight contributed to some tire slip on road sand, I believe that I could have had him if we went alone together at a track.
It's a good car, and for 150 horsepower, that 4-banger can go. But faster than an SVT? I seriously doubt it.

I know a kid with an ATX Z-24, and we have raced a few times(I have a V6 ATX). We both have your basic mods like intake and exhaust, and I beat him both times, the second time I had my subs (2 12's) and 3 other people in the car, and I still took him. So like everyone else has said, it wont take an SVT...
