Because the SVT engine has a higher air flow rate than the NON-SVT engine.
That is why a conical style filter is used in the SVT.
The Non-SVT uses a square filter in a square box,
that has a baffle inside to eliminate intake noise.

I know it's stupid, but we didn't design the cars,
FORD did.
If it was left up to us, all Tours would have the same filter,
whether it was a Zetec, Duratec, or SVT.
