hugo t, that's weird cuz i just asked u about problems with your tint. i didn't think tint was a component of emissions testing. i already told u what happened to me and whats going on to this point. (may be long)
i was searching for an svt for a while and finally tracked one down in LI, NY at mccarville ford. i bought it. last sat the night of the meet, i got caught in a random police check for my tint(which is lighter than hugo t's). cop gave me a warning and i had to get it inspected at the dmv. i went to the dmv and parked and got out. a lady approached and said she was hoping i would park. she saw my mccarville ford rear plate cover and told me that was her last name and her family owns the dealership. though she's never met that side of the family from my. so i'm in line talking to her about my tint and that that's the reason i'm there. a lady in front overhears this and gives me a piece of info(read on). i get the tint inspected and it fails. In CT tint has to allow 35% of light thru or higher. (most limo tint is 4-5% light visibility, i've even seen 2%). mine was 31-32%. can u believe that. i failed by 3%. so this is where the lady in line comes in. and i'm speaking for CT only, though i'd guess that other states would have the same/similar exception. she told me that i can get a permit for dark tint if i'm photosensitive. as soon as i failed, i asked the guy for the form. he gave it to me. i filled out part A and got it notarized by AAA(free if your a member). i then dropped off the form at my optometrist for her to fill out part B and sign off. i have to p/u the form on monday. then send it to dmv in wethersfield,CT to get it approved. If everything goes well, i get back my permit which i have to carry with me in my car at all times(like registration). i do wear glasses but i don't think u have to to claim photosensitivity, just need an optometrist to sign off. once i get the permit, later on i'm going to strip the tint cuz its scratched up and sucks. i want better quality tint and maybe a little darker (20-25% all around w/ maybe windshield strip too & definitely reverse superbrite lights to see out of the back).
hugo t, what did your tint read at. it had to be at least 20% or less.
i hope this info helps and u guys r able to take advantage of this.
FYI, though i am trying to keep my tint and get around the tint warning, light does bother me. i have always driven with my visors down even at night. (my friends always make fun of me). the light coming in at the top of windshield bothers me, even moonlight. i hate driving at night with cars behind me. their lights(lows not even highs) in my side mirrors bothers me. i think more than most people.
wow, this was longer than i thought it would be.
