On my way home from last sundays meet I was on the parkway at the 168 toll exit. I came out of the toll hard in first and banged 2nd a little too hard and something broke because it made a horrable noise and I saw pieces falling out the back of my car as I looked through the rear view. It's drivable but I don't want to chance it. So it's going in for service on monday. I'll let you know what I broke. If anyone is still going down and would like some company let me know because I still want to go.
I think i broke mine.... But I dont want to bring it to Bill Kolb to get it fixed. They suck!!!! Plus I dont want to have to put the car back to stock. I dont have hours waste. I will do it myself....

About the Road Rally, it starts at the Kensico Damn. It costs about 10-15 dollars to run and I'm not going on that either.. see reasons above.

You need a driver/navigator and Registration closes at about 6pm. (This runs at night)

I'm leaving in about 10 minutes to go watch. I'd love to participate but I'm gettin' over a cold too, don't want to do anything to aggrevate it.

See yas there.

So I went to Englishtown and had a blast at my first auto-x. Missed the walkaround early which proved to hurt me on many a lap. Had an instructor ride with me on a couple of laps and he drove one lap in my car, really helping to see how it should be done (though I have so much to learn). How to steer, when to turn, when to brake, when to get into the gas, all the while fighting my own (bad) instincts. I can see where this is addicting.

Definitely chewed a few thousand miles off of my tires, so if this is something I plan on doing more of, I'll need to get some racing rubber on my E1 wheels. No SVT's there other than myself, but there was a new Mini there on display from BMW NA HQ. Can't wait to see the Mini Cooper S.

There was a WRX club that was at Etown, with 8 WRX's running at the Auto-X. I think a lot of them were first timers like me and weren't getting the most out of their cars. What a shame with all the $$$'s they spend on 18" rims, fart can exhausts, and whatever else they've done.

Anyway, I'll be looking for ways to improve my times at future events and look forward to trying to learn from the wisdom of other CEG'rs.

Oh, and Dave, you were right not to go - damn cold and awfully windy from start to finish, but I'd do it again.

I'll see you next Weekend then??

I will definitely be there. Got my beat up race rubber and all. I'll be there VERY early.. change tires.. choice pick for worker assignments, and well frankly.. I like to walk liesurely around the course.. not the old "near run" many people do.

And of course.. hitting the head and all that other stuff before the first run is nice.

Don't forget to bring a lunch. I also always travel with a couple of folding chairs. My friend Dave (another one) usually sets up his collapsable tent to hang out in under the sun. And you'll usually find me near him.

Who was the instructor with you?? Perry??

Ed Lange (?). Not sure about the last name, but the first name was Ed. He was driving his buddie's ZX2, but he said he has a '8X white Mustang he used to drive that was missing a tranny yesterday. He's driving the ZX2 with his buddy all season.

As long as I can convince the gf, I might be able to make it next week. Any suggestions for rubber? Do you bring a jack with you? If I want to do it, I would assume I'd want to get a SCCA membership. Do they assign you a permanent # for the season?

Ed's really good.. he makes that LX do things you wouldn't have thought possible.

I bring a jack.. a piece of wood to put btw the jack and the car. And I change tires one side at a time. I use a spider-wrench (4-way) to change the tires and Bring work gloves.. it's a dirty Job. Others have electric impacts etc and torque wrenches. I know about what 70-80 ft lbs is.. and I've been doing it long enough I don't bother with the torque wrench.

I musta missed yas. I was there for about an hour (10:30-11:30) in the morning, I didn't see any other SVT's either.

I parked my car right by the red RX-7 that was kinda near the grid, but wasn't lining up.

I was working the course at that point. My heat probably didn't come up until right after you left. I was parked further out towards the snack building. Oh well.
