So I went to Englishtown and had a blast at my first auto-x. Missed the walkaround early which proved to hurt me on many a lap. Had an instructor ride with me on a couple of laps and he drove one lap in my car, really helping to see how it should be done (though I have so much to learn). How to steer, when to turn, when to brake, when to get into the gas, all the while fighting my own (bad) instincts. I can see where this is addicting.
http://www.autox4u.com/2002results/3232002nnjr.htm Definitely chewed a few thousand miles off of my tires, so if this is something I plan on doing more of, I'll need to get some racing rubber on my E1 wheels. No SVT's there other than myself, but there was a new Mini there on display from BMW NA HQ. Can't wait to see the Mini Cooper S.
There was a WRX club that was at Etown, with 8 WRX's running at the Auto-X. I think a lot of them were first timers like me and weren't getting the most out of their cars. What a shame with all the $$$'s they spend on 18" rims, fart can exhausts, and whatever else they've done.
Anyway, I'll be looking for ways to improve my times at future events and look forward to trying to learn from the wisdom of other CEG'rs.
Oh, and Dave, you were right not to go - damn cold and awfully windy from start to finish, but I'd do it again.
