Ok my dear Toursters. Quick question from your good buddy Dave.
The resonator, it is worth to get the thing removed. What kind of numbers are we talking about in terms of power. Does it make the car sound louder (always good for popo pissing off). And how much coin am I looking at.
I work at a Ford Dealership and the service manager told me that my best bet was to take it to a Meineke to do this.
What do you guys think? As a mod it should help, with the KKM cold-air intake, it should be even better.
PLLLLLLEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE Help.

I'm going to be the first one to warn you, that running w/o a resonator in an SVT is LOUD. Cabin drone will drive you crazy, it's just a matter of how long you can deal with it until you give in and put it back.
A nice compromise I found was getting a high-flow resonator. It's 2 1/4" in diameter (same as the rest of the exhaust), while the SVT resonator is 2", and is the main restrictor. It flows real good, and coupled with a KKM, gave me a 14hp gain over stock, on a DynoJet.
If you saw my post further down in the forum, I'm looking to bring my car back to stock (to sell), so if you'd be interested in swapping exhausts for say $30, I'd be interested.. I actually had the work done at Meineke.. They'll charge you $60 for the resonator, and then labor to install it. If you decide just to run a straight pipe in lieu of the resonator (don't say I didn't warn you), it should run $20-30, depending on the shop you go to. Any more than that, and you're getting ripped off.
Good luck, and let me know if you're interested in my offer.

loud to one person is not so loud to the next...
i have ridden in svt with no resonator before and its not as loud as my zetec with no resonator and high flow muffler...and i have driven my zetec for a few hours at a time and it doesnt bother me...depends on the person
its all a matter of opinion...
removing the res will make it growl nicely under hard acceleration, gives it a nice aggressive sound...good luck in what you choose...

Hey bro, you took a ride in an SVT for what, a few minutes? Why don't you try living with it on a day to day for months.. If you do a search, you'll find all these idiots raving about how great it sounds when they first get it done.. Then, a few months later, they're all complaining, and they end up with a resonator or glasspack to quiet it down. While the initial sound may not be as loud as your Zetec (which I doubt, being that I heard your Zetec, and it wasn't that loud either - Starting my car when resonator-less would set off car alarms), the problem with the SVT is that it's a manual, with a nasty throttle hang.. So every time you shift, the revs hang, and the cabin DRONES like you wouldn't believe. And being that my commute put me in the car for roughly 2 hours a day, I couldn't take it after awhile, gave in after 4 months, when I started getting migraine headaches (no joke) because of the exhaust. Believe what you want, but this is just what I said it was, fair warning. I've been on the board/list longer than most, and was probably one of the first people to do this stupid mod, thanks to the infamous Dan Squires.. People used to rave about his custom 3" SMA cat-less exhaust system. Then you saw them 3 months later cursing his existance, because it was louder than hell, and leaking like a mother. Among other things

Get rid of the res, but don't install a straight pipe. Its too rasy and the drone is almost unbearable. I ended up having a glasspack installed and was very happy. The glasspack made the exhaust a bit deeper/throatier. Do it, you'll be happy.

[/QB] You really got 14hp gain with only removing the stock resonator and with a KKM??? That's it???

Yeah, suprising but true.. I dynoed at 177hp at the wheel with a straight pipe and KKM, 175hp with the high-flow resonator, and 161hp stock. Not bad, considering a stock 99 SVT dynoed at 165hp (They had 5hp more in 99-00).
One of the DC guys did about 12 different dyno runs with the different air filters, to see what gave the best gains, and just the KKM gave him an 11hp jump over the stock airbox. The tests were on an SE, but still, you see one of the major bottlenecks.

I wonder want i will pull. Thanks.

Hey man I'm in the same boat as you are. I have a 2000 CSVT and all I have done is the KKM and Pro M 75mm. I wanted to do something to my exhaust but what? I'm thinking of getting a Bassani but it's too expensive. So what I'm going to do is take the resonator off and replace it with a straight pipe and put flowmaster mufflers on. If it gets annoying I'll change it no big deal. I've driven an CSVT without resonator and it definatly does have a more of a drone inside the car than stock but I don't think it was annoying. I can understand it getting annoying after a while but I'll just have to see. I would try it if I were you if you don't like it than change it.
