It really is easy to lose sight of what is important at times. I know sometimes I spend too much time reading car magazines or watching things like Crank and Chrome, but my girlfriend has been remarkably understanding. I also know that I am lucky in this regard.
If you are spending too much time on the car and the Internet, it's time to realign your priorities. You can set aside time to work on the car, but more importantly, set aside time to be with the people you love. They, after all are the ones who will support you when the chips are down. Cars are pieces of metal (I can't believe I am writing this), inanimate machinations that are really no more than conveyances that we use for a period of time in our lives. People are very life itself, helping us when we are down, celebrating good times, caring and loving.
It is OK to love a car, but it cannot compete with loving a person. I have been planning a Mustang project for some time, but a large part of the plan is keeping it at my dad's and getting him to help me so we can build something together. We only have a finite amount of time together on this Earth, and I want to make the most of it.
In the end, it is all about balance. You can have a great car, or a project, but if you don't make that weld tonight, or if you don't get that wiring harness sorted out by Friday, does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? No. It is a hobby, something we do in our SPARE time. ASnd time spent with those we love is not spare time. It is essential.
