Hi all, I will be moving from Cali to NJ this month, and was wondering what the laws were regarding tinting of windows.

Tints are illegal here, but you will most likely get away with it in a 4 door car and plus, if they give u a ticket, u can fight it in court. There is no written law in jersey about them, just ordinances, so you will win it in court.....but ....you will not pass inspection with them =(

I had them on my contour, and i never once got bothered.

Tinted windows are legal but only behind the drivers and passengers windows which means the rear window and two back doors. You will pass inspection like this. If you have the two front doors tinted you will not pass inspection but I have all my windows tinted and have never been bothered either.

I had all of my windows tinted, and passed inspection by just rolling down my front windows However, the dealership was working on my car, had to replace the window, and wouldn't retint the window because of the fact that it was illegal. So I removed the other window's tint and left it alone in the back.

The two back windows, and the back one can be tinted limo dark, the two front ones (driver and passenger) can be tinted up to 35%...but having them at different shades makes the car look cheap....Personally, I have 25% tint all around. Looks pretty nice...what am I saying, they look incredible.
It is possible to pass inspection if you go to one of those local or privetly owned gas stations or alike.....most of them don't care about tint but the emissions on the car.
Here in jersey, I'm sure you won't be needing such dark windows like you would in Cali, but some tint does help alot during hot days.
