IIRC when my taurus waterpump went it would squeal and then a couple of days later it went.
As for the SVT i'm not sure if you could tell when the pump goes, It could happen one day while your driving and the way you tell is the needle pins REDLINE, when that happens make sure you pull right over and shut her down DON'T overheat her.
