Guys, there has been something that came up in my life this past week that has me giving serious thought to selling the car. I won't go into detail of what it is, but let's say I put so much of myself in this car that I'm on the verge of losing the one thing that should have always been more important than any hunk of metal. I've got an add posted in the classifieds if you want to give it some thought.

As a secondary topic, am I alone in getting so engrossed in a car that you lose site of everything else? I've been this way for 8 months or more. I've been addicted to the CEG and to my car. Are there others of you that think you have a similar problem?

I know you guys will be supportive as you always have, so any feedback good or bad is appreciated.

Thanks as always,
Rick frown

Car & internet time has certainly hurt my relationship with my wife at times. Obviously, if you can work out a fair compromise for everything you need to, then I think many people would like to see you keep the Contour(s). But if you cannot limit yourself with the temptation (I know it is very hard so don't think of it as an insult), sell the car and move on. There are many more improtant things in life. There are lots of cars out there and you'll have plenty more years left to mess with them.

keep the car, try to learn moderation.
spend less time on internet and tinkering with the car and more time doing the other things that are important to you.
it really isn't fair to have to give up something you really really love cold turkey when your problem is that you spend too much time with it.
Lessening the amount of time will still allow you to keep the car, something that obviously makes you very happy.

I have always told myself to never let material things get in the way of the things and people I truly love. I bought my second car (the SVT) before proposing to my fiance. At first I knew she felt like the car was more important than her and life itself, but man, I have never felt that way. It's been Lisa first - all the time. The car and internet can get addicting, I know. I have been addicted to the CEG and my cars for a while now but you must always have a perspective on what's really important in your life. Material things are just secondary - even though, many times, it may seem like I put it first. I try to minimize the number of times it seems that way - if you do that, I think you can have the best of both worlds....

good luck with the selling of the vehicle and hope everything turns out OK for you as a person. smile

Moderation is very good advice, but I'm willing to give it up because even though I do love the commradery and excitement I get from my car related activities. I'm trying to think of the best possible foot I can put forward as a good faith effort on my part. I can always replace the car at a later date, I can't replace the other things. Keep em coming!

I know I have really gotten into my car lately because of an SVT swap, but I have always made time for my girl friend of 3 years. She understands that I have a huge interest in cars, but does get frustrated with me every once in a while. Try and work it out so you can keep the car. If you can't then you will have to sell it, but make sure that will help.

Goodluck,
Chris

Rick -- my parents used to get really pissed b/c I'd always be looking at Contour parts or washing it or browsing the CEG. You're not alone, it is addicting to modify a car. I think you'll make the right decision though. As my mom said, "It's only a car."

Well Ricky, like we've discussed, it's not like you'd have to give up fast cars in general, just moderate your time spent with the tinkering. My car habits were under fire after running the SC 2.5 into the ground at SZ01, then having to build another engine after that. Lots of time in the garage can be fun, but lots of time in the dog house afterwards isn't. Good luck buddy! wink
