If you've gone beyond that, it's now a normal wear item and you're the one responsible for it's replacement cost.
Any wear item is under warannty for the first 12 months/12k. That's the same policy for Ford replacement parts.

If your trans is down, I would change out the clutch at the same time, much cheaper now. Later, it will be 800 - 1200 to replace the clutch due to the labor of dropping the subframe.

Even if you did that, it still wouldn't be a Marauder...
Yeah, it'd be faster and handle well!

Well I see you guys are right about the clutch not being a warranty item. Too late now, I picked up the car last night, my sister drove it home, I'll wait and see on the clutch, hopefully it will hold out for a few months or a year or the rest of the life of the car  .

The repair bill said this:
1) New selector shaft Pt# 7358 $28.52
2) Locking bolts (2) Pt# W702421 $6.12
3) Towing $65.00
4) 11.9 hrs labor @ $63.00 hr $749.70
Tax $75.13
Total $959.11
All covered under warranty thank goodness. So after all that it was two cheesy $35.00 parts.

I bought the car Sept. 16, 2000. And I love the advantages of the manual transmission but the disadvantages (like being stuck in traffic) are starting to surface and now problems related to transmission overuse are showing (see above including clutch) so I am thinking about selling it. Although when I saw my sister drive it home yesterday it made the decision that much harder. I love the car, that's why I bought it. I don't really want to sell it but I could sell it and save $300 or so a month and drive the beater.

Last item = the grand marquis is a boat!!! laugh But that V8 sure gets you moving quickly!

Thanks for all your concern and input guys, much appreciated.

Chris,

It still wouldn't BEAT the Marauder, and it would never handle as well as the Marauder does.

Evidently, you guys don't watch the SPEED channel.
There have been TWO reports on the Marauder.
The new 03 Marauder has been driven by BOTH Marauder Racers from the late 60s,
and they approve of the Marauder's Power and Handling, on Street, Strip, and Track.

Second, in a videotaped drag race, the 03 Marauder beat out a 65 Marauder.

When FORD releases the X100 Marauder, we'll have a STOCK S/C to talk about,
right on top of the 302+ HP 4.6L.
(and your 92 Grand Marquis will still be a 92 Grand Marquis)
