Well I see you guys are right about the clutch not being a warranty item. Too late now, I picked up the car last night, my sister drove it home, I'll wait and see on the clutch, hopefully it will hold out for a few months or a year or the rest of the life of the car  .
The repair bill said this:
1) New selector shaft Pt# 7358 $28.52
2) Locking bolts (2) Pt# W702421 $6.12
3) Towing $65.00
4) 11.9 hrs labor @ $63.00 hr $749.70
Tax $75.13
Total $959.11 All covered under warranty thank goodness. So after all that it was two cheesy $35.00 parts.
I bought the car Sept. 16, 2000. And I love the advantages of the manual transmission but the disadvantages (like being stuck in traffic) are starting to surface and now problems related to transmission overuse are showing (see above including clutch) so I am thinking about selling it. Although when I saw my sister drive it home yesterday it made the decision that much harder. I love the car, that's why I bought it. I don't really want to sell it but I could sell it and save $300 or so a month and drive the beater.
Last item = the grand marquis is a boat!!!

But that V8 sure gets you moving quickly!
Thanks for all your concern and input guys, much appreciated.
