Pressing the O/D button (and turning off the O/D) does NOTHING more than disable the overdrive gear . The main reason for turning off the O/D is for sustained slower speeds and steep hilly roads where the trans would be switching between 3rd & O/D , as this is very tough on the trans . The Euro cars have a Sport/Economy mode selector that changes shift patterns . North American models do not have this feature
