I need to know what the keyless entry remotes look like for a 98 contour because I need to know which one is the right one for my car. If possible could you maybe give me a part number also. Thanks a bunch

You probably gotta order a new one straight from Ford, because even if you found one that physically looked the same on the outside, it would have different codes and wont be able to tell your car to unlock. The receiver/transmitter units must have the same codes in order to function. Otherwise, I could just use my remote control to get into any other Ford car with keyless entry. Ford may just ask you for your VIN # in order to know what control you need. So why not call them?

Actually you can use any remote control that works on our cars. U can reprogram it by following simple instruction. if you want to know how to, PM me. I think u can get used remote control that compatible to our cars at ebay.

This is true, but you will also need to know what kind of system you have on your car. My Contour came with a dealer-installed aftermarket Ford system. The SVT models all have OEM keyless entry. The remotes look slightly different (mine has only two round buttons, while the real systems have four squarer-like buttons), and are of course incompatible (cannot be reprogrammed to different types of keyless entry systems).

If your car is not an SVT model, then I hope you have another remote handy to compare when asking for a new one. Also, (for me at least) getting a replacement remote from Ford sets you back $49. Good luck!

My cars came with factory installed OEM 4 button keyless entry remote, it's not soley an SVT option.

You want a 4 button remote FCC ID GQ43VT4T

Check eBay - you can get 'em for less than $20.

Then come back and we'll tell you how to program.

Oh I knew that ... sorry if my post came across that way ...

My point was that if he had an SVT (which according to the sig now is true), it would be likely that it was the standard entry system; but if not, there might be more possibilities.
