It looks like a hacked up pressure differential sensor. I believe it is for the EGR. Could be wrong though.

It's not a selenoid. It is, and I quote from the Ford DVD "Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Sensor" or DPFE for short. Component number C183. Not sure on the Ford part number.

$44.33 from Ford Parts Online. Probably cheaper from Mister Bill.

Now let us back on the IRC server!! :p wink

Show me a picture of said DPFE.

My 97 Helm's manual refers to it as a, and I quote, "EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid". Here's a picture of it, and a picture of the box it came in:

$17.46 from Ford Parts Online, $22.39 list. This is for a 96 V6 (the pics are from my Zetec, part number for V6 may be different), according for FPO. They'll need a calibration code off your door sticker for some reason. You'll probably do better to get it from a local dealer than from FPO or Bill, due to shipping costs (that's what FPO told me, and they were right).

The DPFE has a 3-prong connector, because it is a potentiometer. The EGR solenoid has a 2-prong connector.
