Does anyone here know if it's worth it going to one of the local rust proofing places like Krown etc with my '95 Contour? It hasn't had any rust proofing done before but it doesn't show rust yet. Is it going to help it at all if I start a yearly thing now or is it too late?

I think its the biggest waste of money of all! They put this crap all over your car.. looks like crapola.. comes off in a year (if they do a decent job of it) and if your car does start rusting they say its not covered by their "limited" warranty.. it be a lot more worth it to wash your car, wax it and go in tight areas with a cloth and clean them of water/dirt/salt.. my tour has been in the bad/worst weather for the longest time.. it needs a new paint job, a lot of Zaino and a lot of love and care when I get 100% ownership of it.. but it has no rust.. nada.. well actually under the doors I spotted like a tiny bit (very tiny).. so I clean there like crazy now.. if you take care of your car and keep it clean it shouldn't rust.. unless Ford really did decontent the paint on it  ..

I know of an anti-rust device that works very well. It places a very low electrical charge throughout the skin and chassis of the car which is supposed to stop the ionization process that allows molecular oxygen from combining with iron ions in the metal. (Hence Fe02 or rust). I've known quite a few people who have used these devices and have never had a problem with rust.
The device is expensive though, $600 if I'm not mistaken. If you want one let me know and I'll see if I can get you one.

Re electrical device in prior post. I seem to recall reading about this device recently when the government disputed the claims made by mfr. Caveat empor (buyer beware).
I might add that underground utility companies have been using cathodic protection on pipes for years to prevent corrosion. This corrosion occurs due to natural galvanic action and cathodic protection adds a small reverse electrical charge to neutralize the effect.

I have done the Krown on my car since I bought it. No rust (98 SVT Contour) Winter driven. Now I do take care of it. Also, on my old tempo it was starting to rust along the trunk line which was the norm with those cars. I never did any kind of rust protection on that but I did go an buy rust check and used it a few times a year on the area that was rusting. It never got any worse. Plus on the GrandAm usually twice a year I did the same thing with the rust check and again not rust in those areas. It did rust in other areas but not where i used that stuff. But the rust check helped slow down the rust that was there. I think its a good idea but I would recommend Krown. It seems to be the better one that I have found.

I guess I'll give it a bit more thought. I just hate having rust pop up 'cause it seems like you can't get rid of it then. It happened on my previous 89 Buick (after about 9 years) and my parent's previous cars. I wouldn't go for anything that's $600 ... not enough cash. But Krown and others don't give ANY warranty for a '95.

i've read reports and heard many radio talk shows that say krown has one of the better products. from what i understand its not the outside visible rust that is the concern. in fact if there's rust on the outside then most surely its worse inside the panels. if there is hidden rust then it is supposed to slow the process down markedly. they even claim the product prevents electrical troubles (?) perhaps by eliminating water. spring (ie now) is supposed to be the best time to apply to get rid of winter salt. besides it's only $110 ($100 on sale) and doesn't appear to do any harm.
my $0.02.

My car has been rust proofed since new (Rust Check and the last few years Krown) and has no rust ('95 with 200000+ kms ~128000miles) We had a '87 Plymouth it has also been rust checked since new and it went to the wreckers with no rust, both cars driven through the winter. $99 a year seems like s small investment to keep the car looking new...
