Glad to hear that it went well guys! I'm looking forward to the next session. I know my car could use alittle special attention.

Cheers!

Okay, so here's some of the photos from the TB cleaning day at Martin's. One thing to keep in mind is that Martin's car only has 54,000 miles on it (87,000 Km) so it's still fairly new.

1) UIM removed, view of the dirty LIM still installed on the engine.

2) Close-up view of the dirty lower intake tubes.

3) side view of the LIM, showing the closed secondary butterfly valves. Before cleaning these appear to be black, but are coated with a thick layer of carbon and fuel.

4) Good shot of the UIM, before cleaning. Notice the thick deposits of carbon lining the shorter (larger) secondary runners as compared to the slightly cleaner primary runners.

5) Close up of one pair of runners. You can really see the hard carbon deposits here, flaking off around the mating surface.

6) Another shot of the lower intake, showing before and after cleaning with a brass brush and a can of throttle body cleaner. The butterflies are actually brass.

And here are some from the repairs to my leaking rear cam cover. We skipped the disassembly pictures as they are the same as Martin's, with the exception of colors for the most part.

7) rear cam cover lying upside down on the engine, frontal shot of the rear bank of cams. The lower intake has already been cleaned in this photo.

8) Despite the brake booster vacuum line in the foreground, you can see on the right side of the photo that the camshafts are indeed hollow. There is some wear on the journals (lobes) of the cams, but nothing out of the ordinary.

9) a shot of the exposed head and twin rear cams. You can see the valve springs on the exhaust cam here, and against the firewall, the springs and finger followers for the intake valves.

10) A closeup of the timing chains and a bead of high-temp valve cover gasket sealant that I should have put on during mod day #1.

11) While I don't look too happy in this photo, we're both glad to be reattaching the rear cover again. I'm waiting for the click from the torque wrench to let me know the bolt is torqued down properly.

12) There's nothing the like the grin of realizing the last cam cover bolt is securely fastened down. With the hard bit over, we finished the car up in short order.

And finally, some not so technical photos:

13) Resting after finishing Martin's car.

14) Aaron's sweet Mystique! Love the front bumper!

15) Martin, working harder than ever! wink

Aaron

Looks like you grafted the SVT lower to your Mystique, or did you manage to fit the complete SVT bumper, as you had mentioned last year?

Chris,

Everything from that grove up is the Mystique bumper. the rest of the bumper is the SVT, so (85% SVT 15% Mystique ), I passed by your house on the weekend becasue my friend lives right by you but I didn't see the SVT, I wanted to show you the bumper in person.

Aaron

P.S. Did you notice the handles? eek laugh

smile I noticed the handles now. Nice, very nice. BTW, the SVT stays in the garage most of the time so you would have to knock on the door or give me a shout to see if I'm home. wink

Just wondering, would you be able to graft another svt lower bumper, but to a pre 98 Contour upper????
