swaybar+links were changed , they tell me that 98 and up have a different swaybar [is that the truth ...?]
still feel 'short changed'!
had to go to the dealer , as local mechanics either do not want to work on the car or are unfamiliar with the quirks.

Hi Carbon,
I get almost the same clunk out of my car (97 contour se). At first I thought it was my stabilizer links so I replaced them, not once, not twice, but three times in under 45000km. The problem diminished for a few weeks but returned every time. Now i think it may be the entire rack and pinion?! I get the same sort of clunking at 95km to 115km. I'm not sure if this helps at all, but I feel your pain man. This car is a nightmare with all the little things breaking down, but I love it. I'm going to sell it soon so I can get an Audi A4Q 2.8L. That car will hopefully be maintanence free???
Later, Paul

Just got rid of the infamous 'rear clunk' to now hear another sound from the front-end !
First, there is a 'clunk' from the front end when the car is initially moved [from a parked position] and the steering wheel is turned. Then, after use, if the car is stationary and the steering wheel turned left to right and back, there is a clicking noise that accompanies this action. There is no vibration thru the steering col when driving [except a cyclical sort of vibration that kicks in between 115-120kph only] and the clicking sound does not come when the car is in motion and steering wheel moved.
Love the car, but these [recurring] problems are driving me crazy/depleting my pocket book/making the local Ford dealer happy !
Please can any of the CEGers help out on this...... thanks, in advance !

Hey Paul ,
thanks for the sympathy ... yes, seems like Ford has ruined a perfectly good car , by lack of Q/C or by being just plain cheap in the components dept !
the problem was cured [n/c + 1 day free rental] by the dealership [thanks, Meadowvale Ford]by re-torquing all the fasteners on the front sub-frame .... touch wood , no more weird noises !
the Audi is certainly a good idea, but the capital outlay is more, as is the insurance and 'car-jack' quotient.
BOL !
