the viper V-10 is HORRIBLE. wtf are you talking about. for 500 Ci, it should be making much more power & torque. Think about it. 350 ci LS6 - 405hp, 405 tq. 500 ci Viper V-10 500 hp, 500 tq. that's horrible.

The 2.9L in my Ranger takes exception to that statement! laugh I worked for Ford in the musclecar hayday. Plenty of Boss 302's, 351 and 429's plus all the CobraJet motored cars passed through our service department at one time or another. Fun stuff. Ford made great pushrod motors. If you compare Ford to GM, engine type to engine type, it's only when you get to the V8 that the comparison ends. Both manufacturers make OHC 4's and 6's. It's just that they aren't installed in every car line.

Hey, that's cool! I've got a friend that's throwing a 429 into his early 50's F-series. SCJ heads, huuuge custom cam, custom hilborn setup, backed by a toploader 4-speed. It's gonna be baaaaaaad smile

BTW, the 2.9L in my "beater" 92 Ranger 4x4 is still going quite strong at 140k miles, aside from a slight rear main seal leak. Those things are built like a rock!

Ouch! Okay, I know what you're saying. But practically speaking, in the real world, if I can make the same power as the LS6 at 75% of the effort, which motor will last longer? Both engines are old technology according to your original quote about OHC engines and high rpm horsepower. Each of these engines gets their high output numbers two different ways. And if power is the bottom line, the V-10 wins regardless of the technology involved. 500/500/500 is nothing to scoff at. laugh

Steve: Yeah the 2.9L take a licking and keeps on ticking. Mines got nearly 347,000 on it and I've done very little to it (outside of regular maintenance) except replace the valve cover gaskets, distributer and TFI and a couple of water pumps. It's a keeper. laugh
