Thanks guys for your help. I'll check out the door jam. I have a chrome base antenna also so I really think I have a 98.

One of these days I'll get a hold of SVT for the cert.

"The change to the 98 1/2 was 2/2/98."

That is for the SVT models, not the SE/LX's. Fall of 97, the 1998 models were reconfigured.

Also the power antenna base on the E0 is teardrop shaped, while the E1 is round.

Got a stand alone clock? Probably (but not really definitely AFAIK) a 98.

I'm not sure what you mean by newer 3rd brake light. Do you mean it's in the spolier instead of the rear window? When I ordered mine (Jan 97), no factory spoiler was available, but that may have changed later on (but before 2/2/98). If you have a factory spoiler, then you won't have a rear window brake light no matter what vintage it is. If it was added later, you probably would have both.

By the 3rd brake light, I meant it's a long thin light in the back window instead of a squarer unit, if that makes any sense. I thought that was one way to tell, but After reading the above posts, I think I really just own a 98.

The spoiler wasn't a factory option until 2000. Many were dealer installed before then.

New 2000 SE "non sports" could be ordered by fleets only and with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. There were many put into the used car market last year.

"2000 SE expert" wink

Is the build date after 8/97? It's a 98.5

Now I'm very confused. According to these quotes, I have a 98.5 SE. But I have the Duratec V6 engine (no it's not an SE Sport), stiffer suspension, and standalone clock like the regular 98 SEs have. I have a 24V badge on my trunk, and the sidemarkers say "SE". No side skirts.

Built 11/97 (according to the sticker on the driver's door). I had originally been told the SVT transition date, and that is why I believed I have a 98.

Is mine a unique model (i.e. possibly ordered in 1997, and arrived in late 97)? I do remember someone on this board that has a 98.5 GL because it was ordered. Or do I now have to change my screen name? What do I have?
