Well I am just about ready to put my SVT engine into my cougar. I have the stock duratec out of my cougar and just about all the parts I want to use on the SVT engine. I was looking at the water pump pulley though and notice there is no belt tensioner for the water pump belt on the 2000 svt engine. Is it just not on there or isn't there one on the 2000 SVT engine?

There is one on my stock duratec and I was looking for a place to put it on the SVT engine but there isn't one. If I am confusing people I can snap some pics this afternoon and put them up.

Terry,
Your PM's are full so I will post here. After carefully looking at the waterpump I found out that the balancer bracket was broken off of the water pump. I will have to replace it with the one on my stock duratec. Here is the address to where I posted the pics of it: http://www.fastcougar.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=10&threadid=42879
There is also a pic there of the fuel line which I asked you about. smile

Well I took off the water pump that had the broken belt tensioner on it off and opened it up and the insides look fine. The cone and impeller look great. However, I took the one off of my stock duratec which I am swaping out and found that the cone poped right out. What is the fix for this if I want to use the one with the lose cone, well I have to use it because the belt tensioner mounts to the backside of it. smile Do I buy an entirely new water pump or just replace internal parts?

Thanks,
Chris

Replace with new OEM Ford water pump. Only way to be sure you'll have a pump with a firmly attached cone.

Insert the cone into the housing and take a punch an tap the 5 horizontal indentations around the housing. This will move the aluminum enough to hold the cone in.

Doesn't work, buy the Ford OE pump. I set mine back in with about 15 punches and it came right back out ~6 months later. Don't ask how, I have no clue. The punches were good enough that the aluminum from the housing actually overlayed the cone.

Can't I just pick one up from NAPA auto parts? Why would I want to get another water pump that could potentally fail.

The BAT has got the waterpumps with the metal impellar (www.batinc.com). They're $70-ish.

The Ford pump, IIRC, includes "both halves". What you get from NAPA et. al. is just the impeller side. The Ford pump includes both the impeller side as well as the "cone" side, (for lack of a better term.
