Most respectfully disagree. Those of us who have cleaned it know better. The improved performance is most noticable in the light to mid throttle range.

When I was a tune up technician years ago, I was always pleasantly surprised at how much better a car ran after cleaning the carburator. The main thing then as now was the improved airflow through a cleaner, slicker surface.

Try cleaning yours, you might become a believer too.

Big Jim no offense but I've been there, done that!
No smiles smile for me after the test drive, just the same fast performing SVT I drive each day.

By the way, I hope you're not suggesting comparing a TB to a Carb because the only similarity between the two is the fact they allow air to enter the motor according to drivers input, other than that there is none. Cleaning a carb will no doubt make a difference if it needed it, any mechanically inclined person knows that!

Again as I mentioned, 'It's all in your folks head!' I don't mean this in a degrading way...
cool

The only exception that I wouldn't disagree with is if I seen a TB with enough gunk, literally inhibiting/choking the actual flow of air, but a black colored layer behind the butterfly is nothing, nothing at all...really

i dunno, my car used to take about half a second to "go", after cleaning and oiling the TB, my car seems to respond much faster. And i can litteraly feel more pull espcially at lower rpm. I don't know if you saw my pics, but my plate was sticking, and the holes in the bottom of the UIM were clogged with CHUNKS of carbon and oil. After resetting the computer and taking a few fast paced runs around the neighborhood, i know that the gas is easier to press, the TB responds much faster, and there IS less air restriction so i know and can feel better performance. Cleaning it is the best "free" "mod" (for lack of a better term) i have ever done to my car. It also helped my idle stay at 750 instead of 600 and below, where my car was shaking trying to keep alive. If nothing more, its made my car more responsive to the touch.

If your plates are sticking than cleaning will help. My only reference is to those that take there TB's off and notice that behind the plates is black, now unless that caked on tar is literally inhibiting flow, in other words it's pretty damn thick as well as stucking up the plates than my only remark is,

'It's all in your Head!!!'
