I'm sometimes in the Houston area during mid-Dec through mid-Jan and summers. I live in Sugar Land but go to school in Austin. I agree with your comments about lack of interest. Mustangs seem to be a more popular choice. The temperate climate coupled with long flat roads makes a RWD pony car a feasible daily driver, but makes for boring driving. Come up to Austin for some real twisties.

I'm in South Houston. Since i don't have a computer of my own, all of my surfing is done at work. So, it's usually hard for me to post during the weekends. But i check these forums almost daily. Oh yeah, i have a black 99 SVT. Only mod is KKM. The motor mount insert has been in my garage for about a month (too lazy) and i'm looking at getting a Bassani. See ya'll around.

louisw,
We took a trip to San Antonio in August to do some sight seeing and check out the twisties with the new Firestone SZ 50 EP's. We have a "Roads of Texas" atlas(one inch is 8 to 12 miles or so depending on the county) and I looked for the roads with the most turns. They were FM 336 and FM 337 and wrapped around small mountains or LARGE hills with tight turns down to a posted speed of 20 mph with no margin for error. Narrow two lane roads with not much shoulder on either side, on the up side was rocks and on the other side a guardrail and a very steep descent after on the other side of that. I was taking the 20 mph at about 35 to 40 and had sweaty palms, that was fun!! It would have been real fun if I knew I had the road to myself with no oncoming taffic and could have used the entire road!! My wife took the wheel for a while and really enjoyed it. She is not a driver enthusiast and even she was impressed with the handling of our Contour with these tires. When you get the chance, check out these roads!

Flyin98SVT, hello and welcome, I see you have been on for a little more than a month. We got our car at McRee Ford and take it there for service and a few warranty problems, nothing major. We have also had our '93 Escort wagon in there for service (long out of warranty.) I think that they have a good service dept, especially after reading posts at CEG about other dealers. I recommend them for warranty work as they seem to be very honest and work is completed in a reasonable time period.

i took my SVT there to find out why the heater quit working. Turns out that the wiring harness to the blower motor caught fire (ouch!) and burned up the blower resistor and wiring harness. It cost me about 30$ to fix, but they didnt tell me there was an open campaign on that,,guess i shoulda asked.
I let the body shop look at the paint as it has the same problem mercman's car has.

Flyin,
Sorry to hear that you were not informed of that. That was an "extended warranty" type of recall, if I remember correctly. There are 4 recalls for the 98, check the CEG home page, scroll down to the bottom. It also helps to know what Technical Service Bulletins(TSB's) are out and there is a good size list for the Contour.

Go to http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/servicemmy1.cfm

Is your car under warranty? Those should be covered if it is. One TSB I plan on having taken care of before the orignal 3yr/36,000mi ends is when water from the pavement splashes on the accessory belt, it slips causing a lack of power from the alternator and the power steering, a potentially dangerous situation. I did get the ESP that takes the warranty to 5yr/75,000mi. You may be able to buy additional coverage if you want. Some highly reccommend that. My service adviser there is Bridgett Monthy, she has always taken care of me. I hope you give them a second chance, especially if your car IS under warranty and ask for her.

Keith
