Depending on how you define "market" I'd say Ford doesn't market any of the SVT vehicles. The only time I hear about an SVT model on a Ford commercial is when they tell you that whatever deal they are giving out doesn't include SVT models. They never seem to advertise the SVT vehicles. I think they just sell by word of mouth or after reading about them in a car mag.

SVT's marketing model is pretty much getting the word out through magazine articles AFAIK. They believe that TV commercials don't reach their target audience as well as articles do (and at a much better price). I think they are right. 99% of people watching "Friends" wouldn't buy any SVT, but a large chunk of people who read about them in "Car and Driver", etc. would actually consider them.

BMW and Mercedes do not regularly advertise their specialty cars either, M and AMG. I have seen a commercial for the M5 once, but it was for Europe only. SVT doesn't really need to advertise.

I personally LOVE to have a "wow, nice 4-banger" guy stop me, to talk.... Open the hood to show the 24V duratec, in the SVT, and their jaw couldn't gape more than it does... lol...

Then, again, that is only half the time.. the other half, they are too "Ford didn't make anything like that", or "That's a cute car..." , "Is it the new Taurus??"

Oh, well... I love it, and I know what it is worth, to me..

i have felt really goood about my SE sport a few times already (have had it 4 months now)-- had a guy in a small civic that had some strange guages taped to his dash pull up next to me at a light reving up his fart can exhaust liek he wanted to race or something...i don't street race.. sooooooooo, i just took off from the light like i normally would and pulled in to the sonic drive in burger joint. he pulled up next to me and asked what all i had done to my car. it felt good to tell him "nothing but remove the resonator (had to explain that it was liek a muffler in the center of the car) and that the car was all stock. the only thing he could say was "yeah, but it isn't an svt"...my other is when people come up to chris hightower when he is looking under someone's hood and ask "do you guys need help-did something break?" and he proceeds to explain the contour thing.. it's great!!!! all time favorite has to be popping the hood and someone going "wow! did you have that motor put in? i thought these were 4 bangers")

I've given up trying to explain the difference between a standard Contour and the SVT. I simply say I drive a contour.
What makes up for all the stupid questions is the odd occasion when someone approaches you and they ooh and ahh the car.
It always comes at the most expected times. While sitting at a stoplight an old chev p/u pulls up behind me, in the front passenger seat, a kid not more than 10. He starts pointing, smiling, and chatting with his dad. They followed me to the local mall and the kid got out and asked me all sorts of questions. He really knew his stuff.
I just think of that story everytime I get a dumb question. Puts a smile on my face.
Cheers

this is exactly why I got rid of mine. Here is how the typical conversation would go.

Bum (who knows nothing about cars) "what is that"
me "Its a contour SVT"
Bum "oh I rented one of those once'
me "No, this is the SVT a faster version"
Bum "Oh, a sports model?:"
me " if you want to call it that, its a lot faster than a stock contour"
Bum "Oh, how much for the body kit?"
me "it came stock that way"
Bum "the rims too?"
me "yeah the rims came with it. Yes it just a sports model that is made to run on the autobahn"

This is why I bought my 330i. I was tired of trying to explain how its not just a contour but a faster SVT model. Now life is simple. I just tell people I have a BMW and they think I am a yuppie. Oh well I have a great car.

I told my Dad it's the decendant of the Falcon.

Most of my friends know about it, though some coworkers and relatives are more clueless. Contours are a bit more well known in Chicagoland, so most don't say what is that. Dealer here ran ads for them all the time, but mostly as a "newer Tempo".
