Banners would be cool with me, but I think someone needs to step up. It sounds like Lance is done with CEG. He and his wife are great people, but they can't afford to keep this up. frown

Who else has access to a T1? ANYONE?

Well, I have already given 20 bucks when the donation links were up, so there. I too would hate to see this site go down, how else could Terry tell us what we are doing wrong laugh .

What we need is a plan. Lance is sounding a little tired and who can blame him, he has done some serious work for everyone here. It may be time for someone to help with the burden.

Whoever handles the task will need a funding source. Why not use the PBS model? An "internet-a-thon" to pay for next years costs. What I mean is the donation tags are left up all the time and we donate thru the year. A running total is kept along with what the next set of costs will be so we know when we have to donate and how much. No contract gets signed without being able to pay up front for the period of the contract.

And before anyone gets antsy, this is hardly the only way to deal with our impending doom or even the best, I simply think we need some constructive thought. Maybe instead of random banner ads we sell "showcases" where Contour related companies may have some space to hock their wares. God knows HMS needs a site!!

The short of it is I am willing to help with money and time and I have already shown I will put up some money.

Save our CEG!!!

I know that if we start charging for membership that new knowledge will stop coming in. I know that if I was developing products for a car and found a place that charges membership to post I would take my offers someplace else (fordcontour.org). I know that many new members will do the same. Having been around the site for a year though, I would pay for the membership, although I think that our new aftermarket parts would fall drastically (lower than they already are).

Count me in for some cash. $25, more if required.

I hate the idea of requiring money for anyone to participate. Perhaps "Full Member" could be redefined as a paying member. After a certain number of posts as a "New Member" (including those of us that have the number already) person be made a "Full Member" if they pay up. If not they can view forums, etc. but no longer post. That would still encourage new people to check out the site, not penalize very limited contributers, and allow us frequent posters to bear the cost burdon, along with sponsers perhaps.

We need a battle plan. Right now the thoughts being contributed seem too random.

Lance or someone else, is it possible you could start a thread outlining the situation to us as much as possible and make it stick at the top of the page?? I think I've seen this kind of "sticky-thread" done before.

For instance, does anyone know when Matt's T-1 is being unhooked?

I know we can get reports about the CEG bandwidth, but many of the hosts I've viewed have mentioned # of databases allowed. How many do we have (need)?

Following current growth trends, what are the projected storage needs of the CEG in a given amount of time? Would it basically remain the same if another one or two thousand members joined?

I think there are several of us that sincerely want to help and could do so more effectively if we had every possible piece of info available.

Dumb question, but is there a way to 'spread it around'? I have a 1.5 megabit connection at my house, b/c my dad works here. I don't think it'd be a problem to 'donate' some bandwidth.

Conversely, I think if we just had everyone chip in $20 or whatever we could get a dedicated machine and line.

There are about 7000+ registered members. Figure that 1500-2000 post regularly. Even if half of them (750-1000) give $20, that is a ton of cash.
