The glove box lock is very easy to install also...just need to get a key made for it. ....
Perhaps you didn't understand my question.

Was it ignition key that fit glove box lock or a separate key? If you only get old lock how can you get key cut to open it? Alternately can lock be set to work from your existing ignition key?

$2 junk yard lock requiring $75+ locksmith charges not an interesting re-contenting option to pursue, IMO.

The lock cylinder was set for the ignition key of the original car IIRC. You would need to either a) get the cylinder tumblers redone for your key, or b) get a key made for the current tumbler setup. Either way, it's a locksmith job (or Ford if you like).

Anyone disagree? Or did the early Contours come with a "Valet" key (PATS wouldn't have been an issue).

Actually, I understood the question you asked, I was just giving you a hard time.

As PA said it was the ignition key that fit the lock, I honestly didn't know for sure because this is something I recontented. The locking piece shouldn't cost much. The locksmithing charges shouldn't be much either...whether to cut a key or redo the tumblers. It will probably be easiest/cheapest to have a key cut...I highly doubt it would cost anywhere near $75. IMO.

wait. i think my 95 gl uses the trunk key to open the glove box, not the ignition key. so can a locksmith actually make a key for the glove box from the lock cylinder? is this actually something they know how to do?
