I'm competing in a Solo I autocross race at Blackhawk Farms this Saturday (May 11th). The deadline is fast approaching, but I'm hoping to get some fellow CEG'ers up there to race against me. Or just come to spectate. It would be much more fun with a group! We had some interest in a prior thread, and wanted to see who can make it.

For information on how to register, see HERE .

(Solo I is highspeed autocrossing, similar to what we did at Gingerman. The only real difference is tighter tech, official practice groups, timed laps, and trophy ceremony. There is also free beer for all competitors that night. It's a fun time! )

Price is $75 ($90 if you are not a Midwest Council member).

The track is near Rockford, IL (about 90 minutes NW of Chicago).

Let me know if you can attend or just come to watch! You'll see a wide range of cars racing - from Ford Fiestas to Dodge Vipers.

If you have questions, just let me know.

I would love to go but I have to work from 7:30 to 3:30. Is it still going on afterwards?

The event is over around 5-6pm, with trophy ceremony afterwards. Then they bust out the free beer.

Charlie, you'd pretty much miss the action. That sucks! What's with this 'working on Saturday' crap? What do you think you are, a hard worker? laugh

Maybe next time?

this isnt scca solo1, correct? i know for that you need a roll cage. But 90 bucks! Yeow! I know its high-speed, on a real track, but 90 bucks is pretty steep.

I'm slightly interested but i think I'll skip this one!

I'm not sure I'd even be invited with an import? Or is that another club im thinking about?

Mark

It's Solo1, but not SCCA. It's the Midwestern Council Sports Car Club . No rollbars required (except for convertibles). You need a fit, clean car, SA90/M90 or
better helmet, long pants and shirt, and an empty car. That's about it. They even have an abbreviated 'drivers school' for novices there for the first time.

It's $75 ($90 for non-members) because it's an actual competition, not just open track. And for the record, Gingerman charges $150 for Monday's allday opentrack, so $75 is a pretty good deal if you ask me. But $90 is $90, I understand that. It's just cool to have your laps timed and trophies given out - great bragging rights. Plus, just drink about $30 worth of beer and you'll be fine. :-)

Imports/domestics - it doesn't matter. Like I said before, there is just about every make and model out there. You'd probably see quite a bit of interest from folks if you brought your WRX. There's been some arguments about what class the WRX should actually be in - they seem to do quite well.

Sorry we won't see you there, Mark. Maybe next time.

Well, Weather.com is talking about a full INCH of rain (90% chance of the wet stuff), along with wind and cool temps.

I'm starting to think I'm not going to skip tomorrow's event. That's too much rain and lightning.

I'll make the final call when I wake up tomorrow at 4am!
