I am so damn pissed right now!! **** this and **** that. I just got a ticket for 42 in a 30 zone. This is my first ticket in Illinois. There was another car right next to me going the same speed, and he got me. I wasn't going faster than the other cars around me either. Now I need to go to court to try and fight this so my insurance rates don't go up, but that means I have to pay a f**king Illinois court fee in addition to the stupid f**king fine.

Is there anyway that I can get out of this? He didn't write that it was a contour, he just wrote Ford, not the make of the car. Could I have asked to see the radar detector? Would that have helped anything?!?!?! Somoene tell me something I can do so it wont go on my insurance. He also never asked to see my insurance card. Does this mean my insurance ocmpany wont be notified?

speaking as a law enforcement officer, I can tell you that it never hurts to go to court if you feel you are right and the police officer is wrong. Several things you should know. If he used radar, and there were several vehicles traveling close to each other, the radar wave usually is reflected by the "closest" and/or "biggest" object(sine wave theory, but is kinda a pain to explain). Keep in mind that the biggest object might not be traveling the fastest, but was what caused a return. Secondly, depending on SOP, the officer must first "track" a suspected speeding vehicle, and estimate it's speed before the radar is employed to "verify" the vehicles speed. Also, the radar is required to be "certified" as accurate. The officer must verify the radar operation with a high or low band tuning fork before the radar is placed into operation for the day. I once found a falcon gun that was 13 miles off speed. If, as you say, there were several vehicles close to you, and you have a good argument, there is a good chance the judge will either reduce the fine, or dismiss the ticket. It also helps if the officer doesn't appear in court as a witness. It is really hard for some of us to appear, when messages aren't passed, and continual criminal activity keep us constantly playing catch-up. Lots of what I said above needs to be verified to the judge by the citing police officer. Go to court. Tell your side of the story. Be as honest as you think you can. At the most, you will just have to pay court costs with the ticket. Remember to be respectful. First impressions are the longest lasting ones.

Just got out of one of these in this friggen state. Here's what you do. GO TO COURT! Tell your side of the story, if he doesn't buy it, ask for "court supervision" Basically all this means is you will pay the fine and go to a 4 hour drivers safety class. If he gives you the court supervision it will NOT GO TO YOU INSURANCE COMPANY. I Just went through this a month ago or so and it worked. If you need verification. Ask OFFICER CARTMAN in the General Forum.

If you're just worried about your insurance rates then you can take a drivers training course without going to court. There should be an option on your ticket. Take that option, pay another $30 bucks or so and wait for the course schedule. When you pass the course the ticket won't go on your record and won't effect your insurance.

if you go to court ask to see the printout from the radar gun there, and if the cop can't produce it infront of the judge, you should be cool...

Well, technically yes but most cops use a onboard computer to record the speed/lisc/ect. The judge has a computer screen that shows him this. In the state of Ill the police officer is REQUIRED to ba at all court dates for traffic tickets. If he's not there he gets docked pay. The moral of this story is I wouldn't go there and say "Prove it" That'a the way to piss somebody off. Remember...use good TACT!!!

printout of radar gun? I have never seen that... The computers in the cars are for running ncic checks... scanning the license if you have a magnetic strip. Some states do require the officer appear for traffic court. Most of the time, the only record of a citation being issued are the various copies of the particular citation. Remember, each state has it's own regulations in regards to enforcing traffic laws. I currently work in AZ, but CA which is 2 miles away has different policies. I haven't had a speeding ticket, and what happens after I issue a ticket does not interest me. Most of what has been discussed here still depends on what the judge decides. That is if you were contesting the ticket. Otherwise, if you "qualify" for school, take it. But you won't be able to do it again.
