The review is for the Euro "Type R" not the same as the U.S. "Si". However, the Si would've faired worse in the review with lower horsepower, a different suspension, and smaller wheels and tires.

I did own a 2000 Civic Si before I moved up to a 2k SVT. The 2k Si was a great car and alot of fun to drive. But the SVT is a much more substantial car.

The new Si got away from its roots too much. I dislike it as a hatchback. The previous Si was nice despite not having ABS available.

I like the older Si. But the older ones had even less torque.

if you're implying that its roots are in coupe form, you're mistaken. if anything, the *bodystyle* of the new si is *closer* to its roots than the last generation 99-00 si.

however, as a "hot hatch", then the new one is definitely much more tame and anonymous than the early si hatchbacks. i personally like the styling of the euro-spec civic type R - the body kit and wheels add just enough flair to make the shrunken-minivan body style actually look good - but i'd never buy the USDM si. i'll stick w/ my RSX-S, thanks.

the review was a bit harsh, but refreshing nonetheless. i disagree w/ some of his points, considering my RSX-S has the same 200hp engine as the euro CTR....it just doesn't feel all that slow to me at low rpm. [shrug]

to each their own....but i have to say that it is nice to read a review that doesn't sound like it came from the manufacturer's publicists.

Word. I still adore the coupe, though. I wouldn't own any of the hatchbacks.

yep....i agree w/ you. the hatchbacks have always been a little odd-looking, from the slant-back late-80's models to the split-tailgate 5th gen ones on up to the current blob-like one.

having owned a 5th gen civic coupe myself at one time, i'm quite partial to the coupe body style too.

My pre 98 Contour is definately not the most beautiful car on the road but she looks as good as an 18 year old virgin on prom night next to that design. Looks like they copied the Focus and rounded everything off. I'll agree the euro spec R isn't too shabby looking.
