Well spoken. See, not all Naperville people are spoiled punks! smile (NOT implying that anyone here from Naperville is a spoiled punk, mind you...)

I've owned 10 cars in 8 years, the cheapest one was $1,200. My parents never once pitched in a penny for any of them-- repairs, insurance, buying, gas, etc. I grew up in Bartlett though-- less Napervillish. I had to work my arse off at KMart and Jewel until 12 midnight during high school to barely afford my cars.

I feel so old now, but still look 18. Back when I was a kid...

I got my first car at 17, for $350. Then sold it a year later, then got a '67 Chevy PU for the same, and drove it until I was 22. My dad didn't own a car until he was 22, and it was a 1953 Plymouth.

I used to get all jealous about kids with nice cars. But, I've learned that how other families conduct themselves is nobody else's business.

Styling on the Eclipses/Talons sucked, and they're too small. I want something larger. Thanks for the info.

DSM is outdated:
It does not refer to the cars or a body platform, DSM means "Diamond Star Motors", the 50/50 joint venture plant between Mopar and Mitsu. In 92-93, Chrysler sold their half to Mitsu and it became Mitsubishi Motors Co,

So, the since then it's been "MMC". Also, the plant made other cars then the sport coupes: wink Mirages, Avengers, Sebrings, and Galants.

i paid 50% of the car, i had a summer job that paid 8 dollars an hour for 3 months. it was at a factory. i had to wake up 5 am, its an hour drive. i got bak home at 5 pm. i came bak really dirty, and tired.

And i did alot of work. polishing metal, grinding, some minor cnc work, packed boxes, carried ****, and emptied barrels full of scrap metal. it want fun but i did it anyway. i think i earned my damn car period. i dont care waht anyone says. It was the hardest work i have done.

what all teenagers need is to find a job at a factory, then see how motivated are they to succeed and finish school and go on to college.

I always was a good student, but i became a even better student because of that job. You should see how your kids, brothers, or nephews get motivated. Flipping burgers is an pussy job, and kids dont get that it could be wrose.

i paid 2500 for my car plus registation, my parents paid the other 2500. totaling 5000.

save up dan get yourself a car that u want. you already have about 5k in your pocket from the tour if it gets trashed. so you dont need t work much. GL

3rd car:

I got $1000 from folks after I graduated NIU (85) and I put it down on a used 1981 Dodge Colt HB, a Mitsu made car. Tiny car, small as a Metro, but quick. However, it fell apart after 50K and cost $$$ to fix. :p

DSM is outdated: ...
...sigh...

This has been covered ad nauseum in DSM circles.

Dude, DSM is just a generic label for the 90-99 Laser/Talon/Eclipse. The Galant VR4 is included for many reasons as well. Why spilt hairs with technicalities? Go to the DSM Shootout this July, or to www.dsmtalk.com and tell people with 94+ DSMs to start calling them MMCs and they'll surely go for that... DSM is just an easy term to use to umbrella 3 related (almost identical) cars into one name instead of typing all three names everytime you talk about them.

ALL 90-99 Eclipses/Talons/Lasers (yes the Laser ended in 94 and Talon in 98...) share the same available top of the line engines, transmissions/transaxles, and upgrade paths.

I'll ask again-- how can DSM be an outdated term when people still use it and recognize it??? Honestly, post the above information on any DSM web- board and see who you're enlightning, if anyone. The fact is, every DSM owner and most fans know that DSM officially disbanded in 1993, but 93 and later cars are still commonly considered DSMs by fans and owners alike because they are direct descendants of the original DSM cars. Although they were technically not built by Diamond Star Motors, their connection to the original line is unmistakable, as they share the name, trim levels and original intention of the "true DSM" cars.

My 93 GSX has DSM tags all over it. Also, some early 95 cars have DSM labeling on them. Diamond Star Motors officially ceased to exist in mid-1993, when Chrysler sold off all of its Mitsubishi holdings, technically making the 1994 cars the last of the DSMs. For referral sake they are all in the same family. This family started out as the DSM family, and all ties to the DSM family ended cruelly with the introduction of the hideous 2000 Eclipse.

Besides, Dan says he doesn't like them... This is his post after all. I wouldn't mind discussing this further in PM if possible.

I work my ass off to save money for college, I've been with Sunlgass Hut for 14 months. Anyone in retail knows how much of a PITA it can be at times.

I have some money in the bank, but I'd like to save it for spending money in college.
