Ron -- parents don't want me getting RWD, and to a certain extent I don't want it either. They suck in the snow. I will probably get a 2nd-gen SHO (92-95) with the Yamaha V6. If anyone can suggest a good car for me, go ahead.

I've seen Tours for under $5000. Why not get another? Every SHO I've seen has had problems. Something to think about. Contours are pretty cheap since they are not made anymore. wink

forget the turbo awd talon's eclipses (gsx), try to find a first gen turbo eclipse thats only front wheel drive (gs-t), much cheaper, easier to find too.
your not gonna find a decent used subaru (2.5RS) for that kind of money, but you could find an old impreza 2.2 L with awd, 5 speed, for pretty cheap.

the turbo eclipse and talons have a webpage, www.dsm.org or .com or something. those are great if you want a cheap car that can make nice power.

The last of these 1st gen MMC's are 1994 models.
"DSM" is an outdated term, btw, don't know why the fans of these cars still use it.

The last Ford Probes were made in '97, maybe one of these with a V6?

Then maybe a Mystique 'LS', which all have 6's. wink

How is DSM an outdated term if everyone knows what you're referring to? Just becuase they don't make DSMs anymore doesn't make the term outdated... Is FBody going to be an outdated term next year? Outdated = not used anymore.

anyway--

1st gen 90-94 DSMs are relatively cheap. Usually under $6,000 for good examples. Most have been beaten on though. I personally have seen more AWDs than turbo FWDs, but maybe spreeboy has been looking other places. Check out www.dsmtrader.com or
www.autotrader.com

2nd gen Talons (95-98) and Eclipses (95-99) are a bit heavier and have smaller turbos. Some people like the jellybean with spoiler looks better, but I like the understated 1g cars myself (especially 90 and 91's). 2nd gens also have cheap plastic BOVs that leak boost over 10psi, cheap thrust bearings that tend to fail and thus, crankwalk.

You could drive my 93GSX since I'm right down the street and see why I'd rather push it than drive my wife's Contour, but if mommy and daddy are buying the car for you, then I'd take what ever they give me though... Especially if I destroyed the first car they gave me. Just a thought.

good luck
