EDIT: pAG3 3 = 0Wn3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/b]Well what if someone had a highspeed DSL line at there home, say a 768k SDSL line. Would that work? there is a local internet company in MA that has been around for sometime and the DSL service is available to me for $119.95/mo. There is also something like a $250. startup cost check there site at: www.map.com If need be I will get it provided people can chip in which im sure they will. I have faith in this place. I also have a APC 650 backup for it to go on and I have my own cable modem so there will be no one else accessing the DSL line except for the CEG. Im just trying to keep this place from bomb'n Lemme know what you think about this. or we can pray that matt does not lose his job. EDIT: I knew it was too good to be true, I read there terms of service agreement and it wont work. ********************** e. Excessively using the Service in such a way as to limit the bandwidth or access available to others, including, but not limited to, download traffic of fifty (50) megabytes or more per day for the Subscriber's web page or site, sending e mail traffic in excess of fifty (50) megabytes per day, or using ping, e-mail check, excessive IRC logging, or any automated program with the sole intent of creating a continuous connection; *********************** Sorry guys that wont work... back to the drawing board

I wish I had a way to help out, but I don't have access to any equipment or serivces that could be of use to us.
However, if need be I will donate some green to keep the CEG running strong.

I would really hate to see this site go. I am 16 and work my a** off to just try to get my bills paid. I still have to pay for my Contour. I can't give much, but I could scrape together $10 this year, and $20 next, and $30 next. I can't live without contour.org. Maybe I could hack my school's network and host the site there. I have access to the network... I just don't know how to hide the page so the county techies won't realize it.

im not sure if this is a solution, but if there was a way you could reset the forums, say quarterly (every 3 months), so that we all had to login, but pay a $10 or $15 re-entry fee, i think the amount of people that use the forums would cover the expenses. im sure the number of users would drop, therefore decreasing the bandwidth needs, and naturally those who stay and pay the fees are the more serious users that we all need. im in for $15/quarter... $5/month.

Where is pollo loco! Maybe he could host it through that place he works at? Since they already let us post videos on his site seems like maybe he could do something.

It's nice to want to help, but I'm not sure that's the way to do it.

Anyone here familiar with somethingawful.com? Of course, their site isn't even close to our subject matter, but recently they started charging to be on their forums. While this did upset some people, it kept the forums in much better condition because there weren't so many people posting junk. His idea worked, and there's still a sizable amount of people on the SomethingAwful forums. While I'm not saying that everyone here posts junk, there are people that get into "forum fights", fights that just don't have a place here. This is an auto enthusiasts site, not Chevy Celebrity Deathmatch!

Sad part is, everyone would be all peachy about paying a membership fee for the first, second, hell, maybe even third month. But then reality sets in and their 10 bucks a month has a harder time finding it's way to Lance now, as it did in the beginning. Not to sound like the eternal pessimist, but it will inevitabley happen. As stated earlier, people write checks with their mouth, that they can't cash all he time. I don't think Lance wants to go thru the BS of moving this site, only to find out that after 5-6 months, it will get shut down due to a lack of funds from the people that promised to keep up their end of the baragin. Best bet is to find another free t-1.
This is a great site, and I have been a CEG member for damn near 5 years, so don't take this as bashing.

Maybe we could distributed, you know, hosting over ~10-20 dsl connections. I initially saw this proposed for some rather questionable content. But here is the idea, 1 computer is a "server of servers" (hehe) This computer contain no data. All this computer does is auto route people to their closest active server and resync data. (in other situations this server does nothing that could get it shut down). The dsl servers actually host the data. This would provide redundancy, and in our case, greatly lower costs.
Just a thought,
