This is one of my daily, or should I say, nightly reads. I didn't know what I was buying when I got the Contour, I was shopping for an Escort sedan and was sold up by the salesman, he said V6 and more standard stuff. That it had a V6 was enough for me to test drive a few. I didn't know about the trim levels, didn't know what an SVT was other than it was more than we wanted spend, and wound up with the SE Sport because my wife liked the color. It wasn't until I found this site while searching the web for tires, found the Tire Rack and a post about the bad Firestone Firehawk GTA's and a pitch for contour.org and "The best kept automotive secret from Detroit", or something to that effect, that I knew that I had purchased something different made here in the USA. That was almost two years after I got the car. This site made me a car enthusiast, cars had been all about getting from point A to point B, now I have fun doing that. I haven't done any mods other than wheels and tires, but now I know more them in two+years than I had before because of this site. I will do what I can to help this site live on.

BTW, I am having my second set of Firestone SZ 50 EP's mounted on my car today.

Um, I might not know what I'm talking about, but check out the "AYW 9" plan on THIS page.

108 GB/month, 500 MB disk space, Full DNS Rights, CGI capable, etc. $125/year - If you can't get $125 from us up front then this site deserves to be shut down.

We currently consume over 1GB of disk space... What to chop? ...

You could ask how much they want for extra disk space (if possible). Their next level plan that serves our needs (3.5 GB disk, 100 GB bandwidth) is $57/month (~$700/year) - certainly not as affordable. That plan does allow extra disk space for $1/mo per 100 MB.

I doubt there is 500 MB of fat to chop off the site without removing the forums. frown

I wouldn't trust contour.org with Cyberwings. They've been growing waaay too fast and selling stuff waaaay too cheap. It's gunna burst, and it ain't gunna be pretty.

I would be willing to pay a $20-50 a year subscription fee. OR something like $5 a month. I understand that this isn't much. However if even a fraction of the total members would pay this it would be able to pay for the costs of a host (hopefully) One side effect, (good and bad) only serious contour enthusiasts (or ones willing to fork up the dough) would stick around.

Hey guys, I'm not a tekkie or even much of a "car guy" but this site has great interaction, I read it ALL THE TIME and I would hate to see it go away. You can count on my contribution and I'm sure many others; just say how much and I would think we can work something out.

I used this company to host a very small site. Check it out: 123 hostme/ fastnet I don't know the numbers but even at $1,000 a year with about 2000(?) active members its not much per person. Even if the site has to become a subscription/annual fee, I'm confident a large number of users will agree to a fair cost. Keep the discussion open and I think we can find a solution. Isn't that how the site ended up hosted at Matt's house? wink smile laugh
